ABOUT THE ROLE:

 

The Director, Total Rewards serves as a strategic architect and hands-on leader responsible for designing, implementing, and managing the company's compensation and benefits programs. This role ensures programs are competitive, compliant, equitable, and scalable, and partners closely with the CHRO, CFO, HR Leadership Team, and executive leadership to align total rewards strategy with business objectives, talent goals, and long-term shareholder value creation.

Responsibilities

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

 

  • Design and lead the company's compensation philosophy, structure, and administration, including base pay, short-term incentives, and long-term incentive plans.
  • Conduct comprehensive job architecture and leveling work across all functions to support internal equity and market competitiveness.
  • Lead annual compensation planning cycles, including merit, bonus, and equity processes.
  • Develop and maintain salary structures using external benchmarking data.
  • Partner with Finance on compensation modeling, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Build and manage equity compensation programs.
  • Partner with Legal, Finance, and external advisors, including compensation consultants and securities counsel, on equity plan design, 409A valuations, and SEC disclosure requirements.
  • Ensure compensation programs are structured to meet public company governance standards and comply with Say-on-Pay expectations.
  • Oversee the design, delivery, and administration of employee benefit programs, including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, FSA/HSA, 401(k), and voluntary benefits.
  • Lead annual benefits renewal and open enrollment processes.
  • Evaluate and manage relationships with benefits brokers, carriers, and third-party administrators.
  • Monitor benefits utilization, cost trends, and competitive positioning, and make data-driven recommendations for plan enhancements or cost-management initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including ERISA, ACA, FLSA, HIPAA, and Equal Pay laws.
  • Manage ERISA fiduciary responsibilities for the 401(k) plan and other retirement programs.
  • Prepare and submit required regulatory filings and support internal and external compensation and benefits audits.
  • Support the CHRO and the Compensation Committee of the Board of Directors in developing and reviewing executive compensation programs.
  • Prepare materials for and participate in Compensation Committee meetings, and coordinate with external compensation consultants engaged by the Board.
  • Lead payroll processing and related operational oversight.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and trusted advisor to HR Business Partners, Finance, and business leaders.
  • Drive education and communication efforts so employees understand and appreciate the value of their total rewards package.
  • Lead, coach, and develop team members through clear goals, workload prioritization, professional development, and ongoing feedback.
  • Adhere to company policies and applicable legal, ethical, and confidentiality standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the CHRO.

Qualifications

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

 

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

 

Experience:

  • Seven or more years of progressive compensation and benefits experience, including three to five years in a leadership role.
  • Experience working with a Compensation Committee of the Board.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Deep knowledge of executive compensation, equity plan administration, and SEC/proxy disclosure requirements.
  • Proficiency with HRIS and compensation management tools.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to translate complex data into actionable recommendations.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • High integrity, discretion, and professionalism when handling sensitive and confidential information.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CCP (Certified Compensation Professional) or CBP (Certified Benefits Professional) designation.
  • Experience in the medical device, life sciences, or manufacturing industry.
  • Familiarity with global compensation and benefits in international markets.

The compensation package includes:

  • Base salary of $190,000-$230,000/year
  • 20% Discretionary bonus
  • Equity participation as approved by Board of Directors (4-year vesting schedule)
