Description
- Bachelor’s degree with specialization in physical education, recreation or a related field of study.
- Two years experience in conducting organized recreational activities.
- One year experience in supervising such activities at a community recreation center.
- Must possess a valid State of Michigan Operator License. May be required to operate a motor vehicle.
Equivalency
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be evaluated on an individual basis.

Knowledge of:
- The goals of community recreation work.
- The rules and equipment of athletic games.
Skill in:
- Effectively communicating with program participants, the general public and other departmental employees.
- Use of personal computers, common office word processing, spreadsheet and database software.
Ability to:
- Organize and conduct a wide variety of recreational activities.
- Supervise the activities of a community recreation center.
- Initiate new activities.
- Promote neighborhood interest in community recreation centers.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships.
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing with tact and diplomacy.
Distinguishing Characteristics:
- The distinction between the two levels of Recreation Center Supervisor is based upon the size and nature of the Recreation Center; the number and variety of recreation activity facilities; the size, complexity, and diversity of recreation programs and participants; and the number and variety of employees supervised.
