C2 Software Engineer

4M Research is seeking multiple Software Engineers to join our team in Huntsville, Alabama. You will support a specialized Agile team responsible for developing, integrating, testing, and sustaining mission-critical software capabilities in support of Global Command and Control (C2) missions, with a focus on engagement planning and execution.

In this role, you will work closely with systems, software, and test engineers to build robust, secure, and scalable Java-based software solutions that address complex logical and algorithmic challenges. The position requires experience in Linux environments, Agile Scrum/SAFe practices, Atlassian tools, and DevSecOps/CI/CD practices. This position is ideal for engineers who enjoy hands-on development, solving complex technical problems, and collaborating in a highly integrated Agile environment.

Responsibilities / Essential Functions:

• Design, develop, document, test, and debug Java applications and software systems implementing logical, mathematical, and algorithmic solutions aligned with program objectives.
• Develop and maintain software supporting Global Command and Control (C2), including engagement planning and execution capabilities.
• Participate in Agile Scrum and Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) teams to develop and maintain software products across multiple software baselines.
• Develop, integrate, test, and troubleshoot software in Linux-based development and runtime environments.
• Apply software engineering best practices for object-oriented design, algorithms, data structures, debugging, performance, and maintainability.
• Collaborate with systems and test engineers to translate operational and technical requirements into software designs, user stories, and testable capabilities.
• Use Atlassian tools, including Jira and Confluence, to support Agile planning, requirements tracking, documentation, defect management, and team collaboration.
• Support DevSecOps practices and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines for build, integration, automated testing, static analysis, and software delivery.
• Support unit, functional, integration, and system testing; contribute to code coverage, static code analysis, test automation, and continuous improvement of software quality.
• Work in a fast-paced environment with high expectations, diverse assignments, and collaborative team settings across all levels of the organization.
• Maintain technical credibility across multiple disciplines to effectively communicate with engineers and understand the work and trade space being discussed.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in a STEM field and at least 1 year of relevant experience.
• Strong object-oriented software development experience with Java.
• Experience developing and troubleshooting software in Linux-based environments.
• Demonstrated understanding of algorithms, data structures, logical problem solving, and software design principles.
• Experience working on Agile Scrum teams; experience with SAFe is required or strongly desired.
• Experience using Atlassian Agile tools, including Jira and Confluence.
• Experience with software configuration management and source control tools such as Git/GitLab.
• Experience with DevSecOps principles and CI/CD practices.
• Experience supporting Command and Control (C2) systems or mission-critical software applications.
• Experience with engagement planning and execution or closely related mission planning / operational software capabilities.
• Active Secret Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience developing software supporting military Command and Control (C2) systems.
• Experience with Engagement Planning and Execution, including planning, coordination, sequencing, or execution of tactical engagements.
• Experience with U.S. Army systems or air and missile defense mission applications.
• Experience with DevSecOps and CI/CD pipelines in classified or highly controlled environments.
• Experience defining requirements, user stories, use cases, and acceptance criteria in partnership with development, systems engineering, and test teams.
• Experience with automated testing, code coverage analysis, static code analysis, and software quality tools.
• Experience with Bash, Python, or other scripting languages.
• Experience with distributed or real-time systems and associated middleware or messaging technologies.
• Current CompTIA Security+ certification.
• Experience with Agile frameworks, including Scrum and SAFe, and participation in PI Planning, sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives.
