Overview:

University Annual Giving in the Office of Engagement is seeking a detail-oriented and motivated work study student employee to join our Direct Marketing team. This role is ideal for someone with strong, practical Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, and data cleanup, and an interest in supporting initiatives that enhance donor engagement and campaign performance. Perform specialized office support functions or services that require some training, skill, or experience. Duties include providing customer service and specific information, data entry and use of standard office software programs & systems, work within established guidelines and policies. Limited supervision is provided; ability to perform a wide range of duties.

Key Responsibilities:

• Build, clean, and maintain large donor and campaign datasets in Excel, including use of pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, conditional formatting, and formulas to organize audience segments for direct mail, email, social media, and text campaigns.
• Set up and manage Excel-based A/B testing worksheets, including splitting audience lists, tracking test variables, and summarizing results for campaign review.
• Build and maintain audience segmentation queries in Snowflake for direct mail, email, social media, and text campaigns.
• Assist in data validation for campaigns, including verifying donor records within Salesforce Ascend.
• Investigate and troubleshoot data issues by analyzing query logic and applying problem-solving skills.
• Document query logic and maintain clear workflows for repeatable processes.

Qualifications:

• Currently pursuing a degree in Data Science, Business Analytics, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field.
• Strong, hands-on Excel skills, including formulas, pivot tables, lookup functions, and data formatting for large datasets.
• Solid understanding of relational database concepts and ability to write SQL queries involving joins, CTEs, and conditional filtering.
• Comfortable troubleshooting query results and explaining logic clearly.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks independently.

Eligibility:

Applicants must be a current UVA undergraduate or graduate student eligible for student employment and work study. This posting is for 2026-27 academic school year.

Rate of pay

$19.50/hour for up to 20 hours a week; a minimum of 10 hours a week. Fully-remote.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. The job does occasionally require traveling some distance to attend meetings, and programs.
