Nightwing is seeking a hybrid Systems Engineer / Dev Engineer / DevOps Engineer job description blends infrastructure management, software development, and CI/CD automation to bridge the gap between building applications and running them reliably.

Role Overview

This role combines the hardware/network stability focus of a Systems Engineer, the coding and feature mindset of a Dev Engineer, and the automation/pipeline focus of a DevOps Engineer. You will design, build, and maintain cloud infrastructure, automate deployment pipelines, and work directly with software development teams to release code safely and quickly.

Key Responsibilities

• Infrastructure & Systems Management: Provision, configure, and maintain cloud environments (AWS) and on-premises physical or virtual servers using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools like Terraform or Ansible.
• CI/CD Pipeline Engineering: Build, optimize, and maintain Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines to automate application building, testing, and deployment using tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions.
• Software & Scripting Development: Write scripts (Python, Bash, or PowerShell) and internal tools to automate manual operations, manage configuration files, and integrate disparate backend systems.
• Containerization & Orchestration: Package applications into lightweight containers using Docker and manage scalable deployments using Kubernetes.
• Monitoring, Logging & Reliability: Instrument robust observability frameworks (Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog) to track system performance, set up real-time alerts, and perform root-cause analysis on production outages.
• Cross-Team Collaboration: Act as a bridge between software developers and IT operations, helping engineers write reliable code, review pull requests, and design fault-tolerant architectures.
• Security & Compliance: Enforce security best practices, manage secrets, scan container images for vulnerabilities, and control access management.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
• Operating Systems: Deep troubleshooting and administration experience with Linux/Unix environments.
• Programming & Scripting: Proficiency in at least one modern language (Python, Ruby, or Go) and shell scripting (Bash or PowerShell).
• Version Control: Strong fluency with Git and collaborative source control workflows.
• Cloud & Infrastructure: Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS) and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible).
• Container Tools: Familiarity with Docker containerization and Kubernetes orchestration.
• Mindset: Strong problem-solving skills, an automation-first attitude, and a collaborative spirit.
• TS/SCI with polygraph Required Day 1

Salary & Benefits

The salary associated with this position ($122,000-$253,000) is commensurate with the selected candidate’s qualifications, years of relevant experience, and demonstrated level of expertise. Compensation will be determined based on these factors to ensure alignment with skills, responsibilities, and market standards.
