THE CITY OF FOUNTAIN VALLEY

The City is seeking an experienced Maintenance Worker to join our Facilities Maintenance team. This journey-level position works alongside two other Maintenance Workers under the direction of the Facilities Foreman to maintain the buildings and infrastructure that serve our community every day.
From City Hall and the Police Department to Fire stations, the Senior Center, recreation facilities, sports park buildings, and other municipal properties, no two days are the same. Our team relies on adaptable professionals who are willing to cross-train, assist wherever needed, and contribute across multiple building trades. As a member of our Facilities Maintenance team, you will:
- Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and improvements on a wide variety of municipal buildings and building systems.
- Maintain electrical, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, painting, lighting, doors, hardware, and other building components.
- Diagnose maintenance issues and recommend effective repair solutions.
- Coordinate and work collaboratively with outside contractors on specialized repair and construction projects.
- Inspect facilities to identify maintenance needs and help ensure safe, functions, and welcoming public buildings.
- Assist fellow team members across all maintenance disciplines, supporting a collaborative and cross-trained work environment.
- Respond to maintenance emergencies and prioritize work to minimize disruptions to City operations.
- Has strong journey-level knowledge of building maintenance practices;
- Possesses demonstrated expertise in electrical systems and HVAC maintenance, while remaining comfortable performing work across multiple trades;
- Enjoys solving problems independently and as part of a team;
- Takes pride in high-quality workmanship and attention to detail;
- Communicates effectively with coworkers, contractors, and City staff;
- Is flexible, adaptable, and willing to cross-train to support the needs of the entire Facilities Maintenance Team; and
- Understands that maintaining public facilities means providing exceptional service to employees, residents, and visitors.

EXPERIENCE:
- Two years related experience in facilities maintenance that may include carpentry, painting, plumbing, metal fabrication, welding, heating, air conditioning and electrical work, preferably in a municipal setting or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities.
REQUIRED LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:
- A valid California Class C driver’s license is required.
- A commercial driver’s license is highly desirable.
- Building Operator certification is highly desirable.
- Maintain, at all times, the license required for this job description.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:
- Must be available for standby duty and is subject to periodic call-out during off-time hours to assist in emergency repairs.
