Role Synopsis

The Construction Team Lead is responsible for overseeing daily field construction operations for upstream oil and gas facilities, including well pads, production facilities, flowlines, and associated infrastructure. This role ensures projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with all regulatory requirements.

Key Accountabilities

Safety Leadership

  • Enforce all company HSE policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements (OSHA, EPA, state regulations)
  • Conduct daily JSAs (Job Safety Analysis) and toolbox talks with crew members
  • Ensure all personnel have required safety training, certifications, and PPE
  • Investigate incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions; implement corrective actions
  • Monitor compliance with permit requirements (hot work, confined space, excavation, etc.)
  • Stop work immediately if unsafe conditions are identified
  • Maintain zero-incident safety culture on all job sites

Field Operations Management

  • Direct and coordinate daily activities of construction crews (typically 5-20+ workers)
  • Schedule work crews, equipment, and materials to meet project milestones
  • Interpret construction drawings, specifications, and engineering documents
  • Ensure work is performed according to design specifications and industry standards
  • Coordinate with other trades and contractors on multi-discipline projects
  • Manage construction of facilities including: well pads, tank batteries, compression stations, separation facilities, flowlines, and gathering systems

Quality Control & Compliance

  • Inspect work quality and ensure compliance with engineering specifications
  • Verify proper installation of equipment, piping, electrical, and instrumentation
  • Conduct pre-commissioning inspections and punch list completion
  • Document quality issues and coordinate corrective actions
  • Ensure compliance with environmental permits and regulations
  • Coordinate inspections with third-party inspectors and regulatory agencies

Project Coordination

  • Participate in pre-construction planning and project kickoff meetings
  • Communicate daily progress, issues, and schedule updates to project management
  • Coordinate material deliveries and equipment mobilization
  • Track and report labor hours, equipment usage, and material consumption
  • Identify and communicate potential delays or scope changes
  • Manage project documentation including daily reports, timecards, and field changes

Personnel Management

  • Assign daily tasks and provide clear work direction to crew members
  • Monitor crew performance and provide coaching/feedback
  • Conduct field training for new or less experienced workers
  • Address personnel issues and conflicts in the field
  • Ensure proper crew size and skill mix for assigned work
  • Promote positive team culture and high morale

Equipment & Materials Management

  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of construction equipment and tools
  • Coordinate equipment inspections and preventive maintenance
  • Track material usage and identify needs for additional materials
  • Protect materials and equipment from damage, loss, or theft
  • Ensure proper storage and handling of hazardous materials

Communication & Reporting

  • Maintain daily communication with Construction Superintendent and Project Manager
  • Submit daily reports documenting progress, issues, safety, and manpower
  • Communicate with landowners, operators, and third parties as needed
  • Coordinate with operations personnel during startup and commissioning
  • Participate in weekly project meetings and progress reviews

Essential Experience and Education

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum 5-7 years of construction experience in oil and gas industry
  • Minimum 2-3 years of supervisory/foreman experience
  • Experience with upstream facilities construction (well pads, production facilities, pipelines)
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, P&IDs, and specifications
  • Knowledge of construction methods for civil, mechanical, piping, and electrical work
  • Understanding of API standards and industry best practices
  • Proficiency with measurement and layout tools
  • Basic computer skills (email, Microsoft Office, construction software)
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification (required)
  • First Aid/CPR certification
  • H2S Alive or equivalent certification
  • Confined Space Entry certification
  • Excavation Competent Person certification (preferred)
  • DOT pipeline construction certifications (preferred)
  • Operator Qualified (OQ) for applicable tasks (preferred)

Working Conditions

  • Primarily outdoor work in variable weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, wind)
  • Remote field locations with limited amenities
  • Extended work hours during peak construction periods (10-12 hour days, 6-7 days/week)
  • Requirement to travel to various field locations
  • Physical demands: walking, climbing, lifting (up to 50 lbs), standing for extended periods
  • Exposure to noise, dust, and industrial hazards

Compensation & Benefits

How much do we pay (Base)?

$156,000-$184,000

Note that the pay range listed for this position is a good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible base compensation at the time of posting.
