$26–$30/hr | Direct Hire | Permanent Opportunity
Skilled Trades Partners is seeking a dependable, mechanically inclined Shop & Inventory Technician for a direct-hire opportunity with an established fire protection contractor in Lexington, KY.
This is a hands-on position combining shop operations, inventory and tool management, purchasing, and basic mechanical work. We’re looking for someone who is comfortable working with both tools and computers and can take ownership of keeping a busy fabrication shop organized and running efficiently.

What You’ll Do
- Manage and organize shop inventory, materials, tools, and equipment
- Track tools being issued, returned, repaired, or replaced
- Monitor consumables and shop supplies and maintain appropriate stock levels
- Perform regular inventory counts
- Enter and maintain inventory and purchasing information using Microsoft Excel and company systems
- Assist with ordering and sourcing tools, parts, materials, and shop supplies
- Source specialty or hard-to-find parts and materials when needed
- Receive deliveries and verify incoming materials and equipment
- Operate an automated welding machine and other shop equipment after training
- Safely operate a forklift to load, unload, and organize materials
- Assist with basic vehicle and equipment maintenance
- Perform minor repairs such as replacing mirrors, air filters, hardware, and other components
- Install GPS tracking devices and other basic vehicle equipment
- Identify damaged tools or equipment and coordinate repairs or replacement
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe fabrication shop
- Assist fabrication and operations teams with additional shop needs and projects
What We’re Looking For
- Strong mechanical aptitude and comfort using hand and power tools
- Forklift experience required
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and data entry
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage inventory, tools, materials, and supplies
- Comfortable performing basic mechanical repairs and troubleshooting
- Ability to safely operate shop equipment and machinery
- Dependable and able to work independently
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a busy shop environment
- Willingness to learn new equipment and processes
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record
- Ability to lift and move materials and equipment commonly found in a fabrication shop
- Ability to pass a drug screen
Preferred Experience
- Fabrication, construction, mechanical, manufacturing, or industrial shop experience
- Inventory or tool management experience
- Purchasing or procurement experience
- Basic welding or fabrication knowledge
- Vehicle or equipment maintenance experience
- CDL is a strong plus, but not required
Compensation & Opportunity
