ZEISS Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology

Enabler for smaller, more powerful, and more energy-efficient microchips

Working for tomorrow today.

Around 80 percent of all microchips worldwide are produced using ZEISS technologies. As the centerpiece of every electronically controlled system, they have become an integral part of our everyday lives – whether in smartphones, smart homes or smart factories. ZEISS is a technology leader in the field of semiconductor manufacturing equipment. With high-precision lithography optics, photomask systems and process control solutions, ZEISS enables the production of ever smaller, increasingly powerful, and more energy-efficient microchips, and thus plays a pivotal role in the age of micro- and nanoelectronics.

Your Role

Are you an experienced engineering professional looking for a leadership role where you can drive hardware development excellence from concept to customer installation? Then the position of Function Architect Hardware Development in our Business Unit Semiconductor Mask Solutions of the ZEISS Group in Jena may be the ideal opportunity for you! As a Function Architect for Hardware Development, you are responsible for translating system requirements into robust functional and module-level architectures for complex semiconductor systems. Working closely with System Engineers and interdisciplinary development teams you ensure technical consistency from system decomposition through implementation and realization.

  • Derive, structure and maintain system- and module-level requirements based on system requirements while ensuring completeness, consistency and traceability

  • Develop, maintain and continuously refine system architectures across mechanics, electronics, firmware and systems engineering

  • Drive and own architectural decisions within your assigned system scope and ensure alignment with the overall system architecture

  • Define, coordinate and manage interfaces between disciplines, modules and subsystems

  • Collaborate closely with System Engineers to ensure technical alignment and architectural integrity throughout the product lifecycle

  • Coordinate technical activities and align stakeholders across engineering disciplines

  • Prepare, support and actively participate in technical reviews and follow up resulting actions to closure

  • Support technical risk identification and mitigation activities throughout development

  • Support realization activities including integration, installation, commissioning and tooling from an architectural perspective

Your Profile

  • University degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Systems Engineering or a comparable technical discipline

  • Significant professional experience (8+ years) in the development of complex technical products or systems

  • Proven track record in requirements engineering, technical specification, and design documentation

  • Deep expertise in Systems Engineering, Requirements Engineering and architecture development, including the translation of complex system requirements into coherent functional and module architectures while ensuring end-to-end traceability, coherence and alignment across interdisciplinary development teams using Siemens Polarion and established engineering processes

  • Broad understanding of interdisciplinary product development involving mechanics, electronics, firmware and systems engineering

  • Experience defining and managing technical interfaces across multiple engineering disciplines

  • Experience with product certification, regulatory compliance and functional safety requirements in a high-tech development environment

  • Strong analytical thinking and excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

  • Experience providing functional leadership and technical guidance across interdisciplinary engineering teams

  • Independent, reliable work style with strong conceptual and end-to-end thinking skills
