Meet the team:
The Direct Materials Sourcing team is a group of category experts responsible for building resilient supply networks, securing capacity, managing total cost, enabling new product introduction, and reducing supply risk.
As the Staff Strategic Sourcing Manager, you will lead sourcing strategy across Mechanical Assembly and key material categories, partnering closely with Engineering, Operations, Quality, Finance, Legal, and external suppliers to deliver business results.
Where you come in:
- Develop and execute short- and long-term category strategies for mechanical assemblies, molding, metal stamping, needle manufacturing, converting, adhesives, and resins.
- Own the supplier relationship for assigned categories and serve as the primary commercial leader across Tier 1 suppliers and critical sub-tier suppliers.
- Lead supplier selection, sourcing events, negotiations, contracting, cost improvement, capacity planning, and business continuity initiatives.
- Build strategies that extend through the full value chain, including raw materials, tooling, manufacturing processes, contract manufacturers, Tier 1 suppliers, and sub-tiers.
- Partner with R&D, Sustaining Engineering, Operations, Quality, and NPI teams to ensure supplier readiness, manufacturability, continuity of supply, and successful product launches.
- Develop supplier relationship management plans, assess commercial and operational risk, and implement practical mitigation and second-source strategies.
- Use market intelligence, should-cost analysis, total cost of ownership, and fact-based business cases to influence decisions and secure leadership alignment.
- Position Strategic Sourcing as a competitive advantage for Dexcom by bringing external innovation, supplier capabilities, cost leadership, resiliency, and speed to the business.
What makes you successful:
- Proven strategic sourcing or category management experience supporting mechanical assemblies and related direct materials in a regulated manufacturing environment.
- Working knowledge of molding, metal stamping, needle manufacturing, converting, adhesives, and resins, including key manufacturing processes, cost drivers, capacity constraints, and supply market dynamics.
- Demonstrated ability to manage Tier 1 and sub-tier supplier relationships, including performance, commercial strategy, risk, capacity, quality, and continuity of supply.
- Strong negotiation, contracting, supplier relationship management, and stakeholder influence skills.
- Credible, engaging, and knowledgeable communication style, with the ability to build trust across technical, operational, and executive stakeholders.
- Ability to become a trusted business advisor for assigned categories by translating market, supplier, technical, and financial insights into clear recommendations.
- Ability to develop quantitative and qualitative business cases, communicate tradeoffs, and gain support from senior leadership.
- Proven record of delivering results in a matrix organization while leading cross-functional initiatives with clear ownership and follow-through.
- Strong financial analysis, market analysis, strategic planning, project management, and problem-solving capabilities.
- High proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint, with the ability to extract insights from complex data and communicate them with executive-level clarity.
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience in medical device, life sciences, or another highly regulated manufacturing industry.
- Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, value engineering, should-cost, and total cost of ownership principles.
- Experience supporting new product introduction, supplier transitions, tooling, capacity expansion, and business continuity planning.
- Practical knowledge of eProcurement, spend analytics, supplier performance, and contract lifecycle management systems.
Leadership impact:
- Success in this role means creating category strategies that the business trusts, suppliers understand, and cross-functional teams can execute. The Staff Strategic Sourcing Manager is expected to bring informed judgment, strong commercial leadership, and a collaborative presence that elevates supplier relationships and positions Strategic Sourcing as a source of competitive advantage for Dexcom.
