Monitors the practices of Dan River Combined Cycle and Rockingham Combustion Turbine to facilitate compliance with company and/or regulatory policies and requirements in which to mitigate risks. Examples include serve as single-points-of-contact and/or coordinator to implement environmental activities that require broad knowledge and experience in order to provide compliance solutions to environmental issues. Supports basic work activities in order to comply with environmental regulations and corporate requirements. Develops, implements and maintains programs, systems and procedures. Monitors and prevents EHS incidents and hazards along with investigation of incidents and/or complaints. Provides regulatory interpretation and technical advice. Participates in and supports EHS compliance and management system audits.
Starts researching, developing, and/or evaluating programs, policies or activities within the discipline they are assigned which have varying levels of complexity; solves a range of problems and develops solutions using standard-moderate procedures. Examples include interact with subject matter experts and customers to ensure consistent and thorough implementation of environmental programs, policies, and procedures.
Assists with providing information/consultation to management/assigned customers on existing environmental programs and policies. Examples include develops and conducts section and department administrative and development functions including special projects and assignments, employee training, emergency preparedness and quality assurance programs. Provides regulatory-required and internal environmental reports. Serves as an intermediate expert for advanced technical programs and compliance issues and supports company’s environmental or safety goals, strategies, programs and processes. With some assistance, the incumbent develops and maintains procedures and programs to assist facilities in complying with environmental laws and regulations. Helps advanced teammates ensure that Duke Energy work procedures address compliance guidance. Assists with tracking basic regulatory changes, basic legislative activities and basic industry standards and helps advanced teammates assist with identifying needed changes to facility’s compliance programs. With appropriate leadership guidance they may assist with working with federal, state and local regulatory authorities to interpret regulations and laws. Supports Duke Energy on various internal/external industry committees and teams.
Continues to develop and increase knowledge of the organization, procedures and assigned customers and analyzes and understands intermediate-level information, past practices and business objectives to make appropriate recommendations to management/assigned customers.
Develops positive working relationships with peers, customers, employees and management to effectively complete work activities.
Basic Qualifications
EHS Consultant
Bachelor's degree in Health and Safety or Engineering or Science or Other Related Degree
In lieu of Bachelor's degree(s), High School/GED AND 7 plus year(s) related work experience
Senior EHS Consultant
Bachelor's degree in Health and Safety or Engineering or Science or Other Related Degree AND 6 years Minimum related work experience
In lieu of Bachelor's degree(s), High School/GED AND 10 plus year(s) related work experience
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of environmental and/or health & safety regulatory compliance requirements, scientific practices, quality assurance principles, and auditing principles.
Demonstrated technical skills in multimedia environmental (air, waste, water) and/or health & safety areas.
Effective communication (both oral and written) and interpersonal skills with a customer-oriented focus.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with management.
With guidance can develop and implement systems and processes that comply with environmental, health and/ or safety laws, regulations, corporate policies and goals.
Experience with interfacing with regulators at the state and/or federal level.
Experience with supporting EHS compliance at multiple facilities/regions within multiple regulatory jurisdictions.
Professional Certifications(Senior EHS Consultant):
North Carolina Physical/Chemical I Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator
DOT Shipper Trained

Office environment with exposure to PC terminal and keyboard
