Description
- Perform initial setup, ongoing monitoring, and clinical assessment of home mechanical ventilators (invasive and non-invasive).
- Conduct routine in-home ventilator checks.
- Review ventilator download data and document clinical findings.
- Share on-call schedules with other RTs in responding to urgent patient needs and equipment troubleshooting.
Patient & Caregiver Education:
- Deliver comprehensive training to patients, family members, and other caregivers on safe equipment use, alarm management, circuit maintenance, and emergency procedures.
- Reinforce individualized education plans, particularly for newly discharged ventilator-dependent patients.
- Assess caregiver competency and document education in the patient record.
Equipment Setup & Training:
- Perform initial setup and follow-up visits as scheduled.
- Ensure proper interface fitting, mask selection, and circuit configuration.
- Complete and document all required CMS/Medicare order verification, delivery confirmation, and equipment logs per MBHC compliance policies.
Physician & Clinical Liaison:
- Collaborate closely with other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient transitions and ongoing care at home.
- Communicate clinical findings and patient status updates to ordering physicians in a timely and professional manner.
- Participate in care conferences and multi-disciplinary team meetings as requested.
- Support MBHC's business development efforts by building and maintaining strong relationships with referral sources.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- Active Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential - CRT candidates with strong home care experience will be considered.
- Current California Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) license in good standing.
- Demonstrated clinical competency with mechanical ventilation (invasive and/or non-invasive).
- Clean and valid California driver's license and willingness to drive long distance for patient home visits.
- Strong patient and caregiver communication skills - ability to teach complex clinical concepts to non-medical audiences.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound clinical judgment in the home environment.
Preferred:
- Experience with ALS, neuromuscular disease, pediatric ventilator, or tracheostomy patient populations.
- Familiarity with ventilator platforms such as Philips Trilogy, ResMed Stellar, Breas, or LTV series.
- Minimum 2 years of clinical experience, with at least 1 year in a home care, post-acute, or complex respiratory setting.
