Lab Technician

Location: Portsmouth
Salary: £30,000–£32,000 per annum

The Role

We are looking for a hands-on and motivated Lab Technician to join our client's team in Portsmouth. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a mechanical or electrical engineering background who enjoys working in a practical, workshop-based environment.

The successful candidate will support the testing, assembly, and maintenance of equipment, ensuring all work is completed safely, accurately, and to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare, assemble, and maintain laboratory and test equipment.
• Carry out mechanical and electrical testing in line with company procedures.
• Support engineers with product development, testing, and validation activities.
• Diagnose faults and assist with repairs and modifications where required.
• Record test results accurately and maintain detailed documentation.
• Ensure laboratory equipment is calibrated, maintained, and operating effectively.
• Follow health and safety procedures at all times.
• Maintain a clean, organised, and efficient workshop/laboratory environment.
• Assist with continuous improvement initiatives and process optimisation.

Essential Requirements

• Level 3 qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• Hands-on experience within a manufacturing, production, workshop, or engineering environment.
• Strong mechanical and/or electrical assembly skills.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
• Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
• Good problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude.
• Competent using Microsoft Office applications.
