Description

The Strategic Security Sciences Division (SSS) at Argonne National Laboratory translates discovery and applied science innovations into practical solutions to enduring and emerging national security challenges. Through our multi-disciplinary R&D efforts and cross-organizational partnerships, we work to secure our nation’s energy future, drive nonproliferation innovation, harness emerging technology R&D for security, and counter chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) and cybersecurity threats

In this position, the candidate:

  • Collects and analyzes raw data to identify trends, patterns, anomalies, and other helpful information with regards to radiological and nuclear security.

  • Transforms datasets into meaningful information to inform data-driven decisions.

  • Conducts research on critical radiological and nuclear source inventories and other key resources including identification of threats, analysis of financials, evaluation of processes and determination of process improvement measures.

  • Performs all source scientific and technical information analysis to identify trends, gaps, and areas for programmatic opportunity.

  • Analyses include radiological and nuclear material threats, illicit pathway analysis, technological advances, alternative technology identification and general proliferation related subject matter.

  • Solves complex informational requirements problems via a combination of analytic judgment and proven analytic practices.

  • Reviews and improves analytics processes, methods, and tools to increase efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness of reports and data requests.

  • Develops new analytic tools and datasets.

  • Prepares briefings and reports on analysis methodology and results.

  • Builds new and expands existing skillsets by participating in educational opportunities. 

Position Requirements

To be considered you must have:

  • Contributes technical expertise through analysis and support for programs and projects associated with nuclear and radiological security and infrastructure analysis. 

  • Contributes to analytical products, develops, evaluates, and applies analytical approaches, synthesis activities, compiles results, prepares reports, publications and documentation. 

  • As an all-source analyst within a matrix organization may be called upon to contribute to other programs/research within a variety of roles, as may be needed and directed. 

  • Experience in nuclear and radiological material protection, control, and accountability.

  • Skill in maintaining professional working relationships with government sponsors and other members of the scientific and engineering communities. 

  • Experience in spatial analysis

  • Experience in technical writing and analysis

  • Experience in non-proliferation activities

  • Skill in written and oral communications

  • Skill in organizational and time management

Other:

Selected candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance and must be a U.S. citizen. The candidate must have the ability to obtain and maintain both Q and TS/SCI clearances, or Q and other agency clearances. The expected hiring range for this position is $78,505.00 - $122,467.41.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as, but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, business considerations, internal equity, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
