On-Campus Adjunct Instructor, Wind Symphony

The opportunity

The Adjunct Instructor for Wind Symphony directs and conducts a collegiate and community concert band ensemble while fostering musical excellence, collaboration, and artistic growth among students. The instructor will plan and lead weekly rehearsals, prepare students and community members for performances, and create an engaging learning environment that develops musicianship, ensemble performance skills, and an appreciation for wind band literature.

The following course is available to teach:

MUS140 - Instrumental Music Ensemble (Mondays, 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.)

What you'll do:

• Plan and conduct a weekly 2-hour Wind Symphony rehearsal.
• Direct and conduct rehearsals and performances for a mixed-instrument wind ensemble.
• Select, prepare, and interpret wind band repertoire appropriate for the ensemble's skill level and educational goals.
• Teach and reinforce musicianship, ensemble techniques, performance practices, and stylistic interpretation.
• Recruit students to participate in wind symphony by promoting the opportunity through campus outreach, student engagement, and collaboration with music faculty and program partners.
• Develop students' and community members' technical proficiency, listening skills, and ensemble awareness.
• Prepare ensemble for concerts, campus performances, and other public events as required.
• Assess student participation, attendance, preparation, and performance observing course requirements.
• Maintain accurate attendance and grading records and submit required academic documentation promptly.
• Communicate with students regarding rehearsal expectations, concert schedules, and performance requirements.
• Follow university policies, academic standards, and student support practices.

What we're looking for:

• Master's degree in Music, Instrumental Conducting, Music Education, Wind Conducting, or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated experience conducting concert bands, wind ensembles, or similar instrumental groups.
• Strong knowledge of wind band literature, rehearsal techniques, score study, and ensemble pedagogy.
• Experience working with brass, woodwind, and percussion students.
• Ability to work effectively with students from diverse musical and educational backgrounds.

The compensation range listed below is our pay for our standard adjunct positions. Due to the nature of this particular role the pay will be $3,000 per course. The actual offer will be based on experience, skills, degree, discipline, and other business and organizational needs.

Compensation

The standard compensation for courses is $2,800 - $3,400 per 16-week undergraduate or graduate course. Actual pay is determined at the time of course assignment based on discipline.
