Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Metallurgist to join our engineering and production team in Harrisburg, PA. In this role, you will evaluate, test, and develop metallic materials to ensure product quality, regulatory compliance, and operational efficiency. You will play a pivotal role in root-cause failure analysis, process optimization, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives across our regional manufacturing operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Materials Testing & Lab Management: Conduct mechanical testing (tensile, hardness, impact), metallographic preparation, microstructural analyses, and non-destructive testing (NDT).
• Failure Analysis: Perform thorough root-cause analysis on component failures using SEM/EDS, optical microscopy, and hardness mapping to prevent recurrence.
• Process Support & Optimization: Provide technical oversight for thermal processing, heat treating, welding, casting, and metal forming operations to maximize alloy properties and process yields.
• Quality & Compliance: Partner with the QA team to support ISO 9001/AS9100 quality standards, review material test reports (MTRs), and maintain material specification compliance.
• Supplier & Client Interaction: Serve as the technical point of contact for customer metallurgical inquiries, material continuous-improvement projects, and raw material vendor qualifications.
• Technical R&D: Assist in evaluating alternative alloys, powder metal processes, or coatings to enhance performance or lower manufacturing costs.

Qualifications & Skills

Required:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Experience: 1–7 years of hands-on metallurgical experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
• Technical Skills:
• Proficiency in metallographic specimen preparation, microstructural evaluation, and mechanical testing protocols (ASTM standards).
• Strong expertise in failure analysis methodologies.
• Solid understanding of ferrous and non-ferrous physical metallurgy, heat treating, and phase transformations.

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary: $120,000 – $150,000 / year (commensurate with experience).
