Job Description
Location:
New York, NYPlatform Engineering builds the tools our editors use to create and publish stories. Our flagship is Copilot, Condé Nast's in-house CMS, the daily workspace for thousands of editors across every brand. We are a cross-functional group working closely with Product, Design, and Editorial, spread across the US, London, and India.
We care about quality, performance, and speed of delivery, and we are actively moving toward an AI-native way of building.
THE ROLE
We are looking for a senior full-stack engineer to help build the next generation of Copilot: rich, intuitive storytelling tools that let editors shape how millions of readers experience a story.
You will own features from the back end all the way to the front end. You will design the data models, services, and APIs that power Copilot, then build the React interfaces editors touch every day on top of them. You will work directly with Product and Design to turn ideas into tools people love to use, and you will help set the technical direction for the team.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Design and build backend services and APIs in Node.js, then carry that work through to the React front end
Model and query content at scale with MongoDB and OpenSearch
Own your services in production, including infrastructure, reliability, and performance (Terraform, AWS)
Partner closely with Product and Design to build editorial tools that are genuinely a pleasure to use
Raise the bar through code review, pairing, and mentoring other engineers
Help shape how the team adopts AI across our workflow and our products
WHAT YOU BRING
Strong backend experience with Node.js: services, APIs, and data modeling at scale
Full-stack range: comfortable owning a feature from the back end through to a React front end
Solid data skills, including MongoDB and search with OpenSearch/Elasticsearch (or similar)
Experience designing and shipping production APIs (REST and GraphQL)
Comfort owning infrastructure with Terraform and AWS
Excellent communication: you explain tradeoffs clearly and collaborate naturally with non-engineers
A track record of shipping user-facing products and caring about the people who use them
Curiosity about new tools, including AI, and the judgment to apply them well
5+ years of professional software engineering experience building and shipping production systems
A BS in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
OUR TECH
Languages & frameworks: JavaScript/TypeScript, Node.js, React, Java, Python
Data: MongoDB, PostgreSQL, OpenSearch/Elasticsearch, Redis, Kafka
APIs: REST, GraphQL, Apollo Federation, AWS AppSync
Infra & deploy: Terraform, AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, GitHub Actions
Observability: Datadog, Splunk, OpenTelemetry
AI tooling: Our engineers have access to AI coding tools, and we are building toward an AI-native workflow
HOW WE WORK
We pair, share knowledge, and level each other up
We collaborate across time zones and locations
Infrastructure as code, everywhere
Teams own their apps in production (including on-call)
WHY WORK WITH US
Industry-leading compensation and benefits
Smart, curious, genuinely kind teammates who love to teach and learn
Whatever hardware and software you need to do your best work
A rare chance to shape the tools behind some of the world's most iconic brands, at a moment of real change in publishing
The expected base salary range for this position is from $175,000-195,000. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including but not limited to relevant skills, training, experience, and education.
