SUMMARY

The Inspector I is responsible for conducting entry-level inspection, quantity determination, and sampling activities related to agricultural commodities and fertilizers at vessels, barges, warehouses, terminals, storage facilities, and other operational locations, following established procedures and client requirements.

The role involves inspection of agricultural commodities, verification of quantity and condition, supervision of loading and discharging operations, collection and handling of samples for laboratory analysis, and ensuring proper identification, storage, and transportation of samples.

The Inspector I ensures compliance with applicable industry standards (including GAFTA and FOSFA where applicable), Saybolt Standard Procedures, client instructions, Global Safety Manual requirements, and company policies.

The position requires attention to detail, accurate documentation, safe working practices, and the ability to work independently and as part of an operational team. The role may involve irregular working hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays, depending on operational requirements.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Conduct inspection and sampling of agricultural commodities and fertilizers in accordance with established procedures, client instructions, and applicable industry standards.

• Perform quantity determination activities, including draft surveys, weight verification, tallying, stock measurements, and other quantity-related inspections as required.

• Inspect cargo condition, cleanliness, suitability of holds, storage facilities, and loading/discharging conditions according to contractual requirements and industry practices.

• Follow applicable industry standards (e.g., GAFTA, FOSFA where applicable), Saybolt Standard Procedures, client instructions, Global Safety Manual, and company policies.

• Participate in required training programs and successfully complete relevant competency assessments related to agricultural inspection, sampling techniques, safety procedures, and operational requirements.

• Ensure correct identification, labeling, sealing, storage, and transportation of collected samples, including recording product details, sampling location, date/time of sampling, and inspector identification.

• Ensure timely and safe delivery of samples to designated laboratories for analysis.

• Prepare accurate inspection reports, sampling records, and related documentation within required timelines.

• Assist senior inspectors and supervisors with inspection activities as required.

• Maintain and continuously develop technical knowledge and inspection skills.

• Always respect and protect company and client confidentiality.

• Perform additional duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility, reliability, and commitment to operational excellence.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum secondary education or equivalent; technical or agricultural education is considered an advantage.

• Previous experience in inspection, agriculture, laboratory, logistics, port operations, or another service-oriented environment is preferred.

• Valid driving license (where required by local regulations).

• Ability and willingness to work at operational locations, including ports, terminals, warehouses, and vessels.

• Ability to successfully complete required training programs and competency assessments.

• Ability to share knowledge and support colleagues when required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES

Good verbal and written communication skills in the local language and basic English proficiency.

• Ability to understand and follow inspection procedures, client instructions, and technical documentation.

• Knowledge of agricultural commodities, sampling practices, and inspection processes is an advantage.

• Familiarity with GAFTA/FOSFA requirements is considered an advantage.

• Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations and accurately record measurements.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

• Understanding and commitment to safety procedures and safe working practices.

• Ability to work in a physically demanding operational environment.

• High levels of integrity, reliability, punctuality, accuracy, and professional conduct.
