The Enterprise eHI Release and Compliance Specialist responds to requests for medical and billing information (designated record set/patient access/eHI export,) suppling the appropriate format, in accordance with regulatory guidelines and organizational privacy and security policies.  The position manages high-priority releases and requests that are more complex.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Hybrid Position, work from home and on site.

  • Training will required to be 100% on site for the first 2-3 months, then transition to Hybrid.

  • Coordinate with Legal and Risk Management on the review of complex legal requests and legal processes.

  • Develop and maintains Release of Information letters and forms in accordance with HIPAA, organization and Epic guidelines to support the Release of Information workflow.

  • Ensure that the EHR and patient’s PHI remains secure while maintaining and/or releasing critical information to meet the organization’s mission of patient care, research, teaching and community outreach.

  • Facilitate the timely and accurate release of patient information via several methods including paper, CD/USB and Epic Release to In basket and Release to Inspector work queue functionality.

  • Release records upon request to patient portal and provides associated support.

  • Maintain the requestor database in our Epic EMR to facilitate accurate, timely release of information and to ensure confidentiality of patient information.

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge surrounding changes in Release of Information and charging guidelines and regulations.

  • Serve as a resource for information surrounding departmental and facility release of information policies.

  • Serve as a knowledge source surrounding release of information, record content and organization structure to the ROI outsource vendor as needed.

  • Support accurate billing and timely collection through the generation of invoices and posting of payments for medical records released, following up as necessary with tact, on outstanding balances.

  • Troubleshoot issues surrounding missing or incomplete documentation, engages leadership for assistance as appropriate.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Required High School Diploma/GED

  • 2 years HIM/Medical Records Required

  • 2 years Healthcare Setting Required

  • 1 year Release of Information Required

  • 1 year Customer Service Required

  • 1 year Basic Computer Office Equipment Required
