Description

The Community Liaison and Family Advocate
The Community Liaison and Family Advocate work in close partnership to ensure families in the FEC catchment area are aware of, can access, and remain meaningfully engaged with the FEC. While their roles are complementary, they serve distinct core functions.

The Community Liaison leads external outreach to promote equitable awareness of, and access to, the FEC, particularly seeking to reach new families who may be isolated or disconnected from support. They also lead outreach and ongoing management of relationships with external community partners and resources. The Family Advocate focuses on engagement within the FEC, building sustained relationships, implementing communication and engagement strategies, and supporting families in strengthening protective factors and connecting to supports. Together, these roles bridge the FEC’s continual connection to families and the broader community. Both positions are expected to provide cross-coverage and jointly support day-to-day FEC operations.

Each FEC must hire and train at least one (1) full-time Family Advocate.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
● Design and implement communication and engagement strategies for participating FEC families so they are consistently informed about upcoming Offerings, events, and opportunities for involvement at the FEC.
● Maintain ongoing contact with participating families through accessible, culturally and linguistically appropriate methods (e.g., phone calls, text messages, newsletters, calendars, and in-person conversations) to promote continued participation and relationship-building.
● Build authentic, strength-based relationships with families in the FEC; employing everyday interactions that strengthen family protective factors.
● Work one-on-one or in small groups with parents, caregivers, and youth to identify strengths, celebrate progress, and explore opportunities for personal and family growth.
● Provide individualized assistance to warmly connect families to local resources, services, and supports when needs fall outside what the FEC can directly provide.
● Facilitate and co-design Offerings and other FEC activities with families, using Appreciative Inquiry.
● Support documentation and feedback processes to ensure that family experiences inform continuous improvement of Offerings and activities.
● Collaborate closely with the Community Liaison to ensure families referred through outreach are successfully welcomed and meaningfully engaged within the FEC.
Design and implement strategic external outreach to families,
community members, and community entities using community data,
local knowledge, and feedback from community members.
● Continuously assess and adapt outreach strategies to reach new and
less connected parents and caregivers.
● Representing the FEC at community events and venues.
● Build and maintain partnerships with community organizations, schools, local coalitions, and other institutions to strengthen trust, collaboration, and visibility.
● Develop and distribute accessible, inclusive outreach materials in multiple languages using culturally affirming messages to promote the FEC and increase participation among diverse families.
● Ensure that outreach and engagement practices reflect the FEC’s core values of equity, inclusiveness, and co-design.
● Support the FEC’s ability to connect individual caregivers and families to local resources, services, and other supports.
● Communicate information about FEC Offerings and events to the community through various channels (e.g., FEC website, newsletters, social media, flyers).

Qualifications
Required
● Bachelor’s degree AND three (3) years of professional experience;
o OR High school diploma AND five (5) years of professional experience in
community-driven-programs with children, youth, and families.

Preferred
● Knowledge of, lived experience in, and commitment to the FEC community.
● Strong interpersonal, community organizing, and advocacy skills.
● Availability for occasional evenings or weekends.
