Infection Control Specialist

Health Services, Public Health Intelligence

Status: Contract Full-Time

Hiring Range: $94,455 – $106,262 per annum (plus comprehensive benefits, where applicable) 

Work Mode: Hybrid (minimum 2 days on-site per week, may vary based on operational requirements)

Location: 7120 Hurontario St., Mississauga, ON L5W 1N4

Hours of work:  35 hours per week (must be flexible to work evenings and/or weekends when required)

 

 

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Supervisor, Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC), the Infection Control Specialist (ICS) provides IPAC expertise to internal and external partners and applies expert knowledge of current evidence, standards and guidelines to prevent and control the spread of communicable diseases in Peel region.

 

What you will do in this role:

  • Plan, implement, monitor and evaluate infection control programs within the Region of Peel
  • Assess and build capacity among internal and external partners to detect and manage emerging IPAC issues and adhere to IPAC best practices
  • Investigate IPAC complaints; complete IPAC audits and evidence-informed risk assessments to identify areas of concern and provide recommendations on how to align with IPAC guidance and best practices
  • Engage in surveillance and outbreak management activities in acute and non-acute health care settings (e.g. CPE, C difficile)
  • Provide consultative support to internal and external partners on IPAC matters that support the Public Health mandate
  • Participate in and support IPAC-related continuous quality improvement initiatives
  • Ensure compliance to applicable legislations, policies, and standards
  • Participate in relevant departmental, inter-departmental and inter-agency committees

 

What the role requires:

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing and a current certificate of competence as a Registered Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario OR other university degree in Health Sciences or a related field
  • Minimum three (3) years of infection control experience
  • Specialized training in Infection Prevention and Control
  • Certification from the Certification Board of Infection Control (CIC, LTC-CIP, a-ICP) preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of communicable disease control, epidemiologic principles, surveillance, and outbreak management
  • Knowledge of applicable policies, guidelines and standards
  • Demonstrated skills in program planning, implementation, and evaluation, and ability to contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives
  • Demonstrated leadership, project management, negotiation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve, resolve conflict, and respond with tact, diplomacy and professionalism
  • Excellent communication (both verbal and written), facilitation, public relations and presentation skills
  • Excellent computer skills including knowledge and experience in the use of computer software (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Miscrosoft Teams) and Ministry databases (e.g. iPHIS)
  • Access to own transportation
  • Must be flexible to work evenings and/or weekends when required

 

This is a hybrid position. You will be required to occasionally attend site visits at various locations and attend on-site meetings based on operational requirements at the 7120 Hurontario Street, Mississauga worksite.
