HEAD OF ENGINEERING
No Recruiter or 3rd party agency contacts please
THE ROLE
Kitty Poo Club is hiring a Head of Engineering to make AI a practical operating capability across the company while leading the technology function behind our direct-to-consumer subscription business. Reporting to the COO, this role owns the engineering roadmap, systems, data, and technical decisions that support ecommerce and operations.
You will set direction and develop the team while staying close enough to the code and data to investigate issues, review work, and ship changes when needed.
WHAT YOU WILL OWN
- Set AI strategy and adoption across KPC, including internal tools, automation, workflows, training, and practical guardrails.
- Translate quarterly business goals into the engineering roadmap, priorities, project scopes, estimates, and releases.
- Hire, coach, and evaluate engineering and analytics team members while creating clear ownership and accountability.
- Own application architecture, cloud infrastructure, security, privacy, consent, disaster recovery, production incidents, and technology spend.
- Oversee ecommerce, subscriptions, customer accounts, payments, technical vendors, and the integrations connecting the website with warehouse and fulfillment systems.
- Own reporting, metric definitions, data quality, growth analytics, experimentation, conversion optimization, technical SEO, and tracking in partnership with Marketing.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- Candidates must reside in the state of Ohio.
- This is a very hands-on role. Must be willing to get your hands dirty, not just manage a department.
- Experience leading engineering in an ecommerce, subscription, or similarly integrated digital business.
- A track record of using AI and automation to improve how teams work, not just experimenting with new tools.
- Strong judgment across modern web applications, APIs, cloud infrastructure, data flows, security, and production operations.
- Enough hands-on experience with JavaScript or TypeScript, React, SQL, and analytics to review work and contribute directly when needed.
- Experience hiring and managing technical team members, working with vendors, and explaining technical tradeoffs to executives and nontechnical teams.
- Experience with Shopify, subscription platforms, AWS, PostHog, GA4/GTM, BigQuery, or ERP and fulfillment integrations is helpful but not required.
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
KPC has stable and secure systems, a focused and predictable engineering roadmap, trustworthy reporting, and clear action when conversion or churn changes. The team has strong ownership, technology costs are managed, and AI and automation create measurable time savings and better decisions across the company.
