JOB SUMMARY
The Senior Electrical Engineer will support the Principal Electrical Engineer and manage electrical engineering activities across all oil and gas projects and facilities for Projects, including design, installation, commissioning, maintenance, and optimization of electrical systems.
The role requires deep technical expertise and the capability to function as an Electrical technical authority, providing safety, technical and project leadership, and compliance with Nigerian and international standards to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective projects and operations
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Act as Electrical technical authority, providing technical assurance and governance for electrical systems.
- Review and approve engineering deliverables, ensuring alignment with company standards and industry best practices.
- Support audits, incident investigations, and management of change (MoC) processes related to electrical systems.
- Lead electrical design for power generation, distribution, motor control, and protection systems.
- Develop specifications, datasheets, and drawings for electrical equipment and installations.
- Ensure designs meet IEC, IEEE, NEC, and Nigerian standards (e.g., NESIS, DPR, NMDPRA).
- Promote and enforce electrical safety across all phases of engineering and operations.
- Ensure compliance with hazardous area classifications (ATEX/IECEx), arc flash protection, and lockout/tagout procedures.
- Conduct electrical safety risk assessments, participate in HAZOPs, and support the coordination of SAFOPs and preparation of SAFOP reports.
- Drive continuous improvement in electrical safety culture and practices.
- Manage electrical scope in FEED, detailed design, and construction, commissioning and start-up phases.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams and supervise contractors during installation and commissioning.
- Ensure quality control and timely delivery of electrical systems.
- May require travel to offshore platforms or remote sites.
- Must be willing to work in challenging environments and comply with safety protocols
Academic Qualification
- Minimum of bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- NSE membership and COREN registrable.
Required Experience
- Experience with offshore platforms, FPSOs, or onshore terminals is desirable.
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in electrical engineering within the oil and gas industry.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of power systems, switchgear, transformers, VFDs, UPS, and generators.
- Ability to function effectively in a multi-ethnic, multi-disciplinary environment.
- Good leadership, personal relations and communications skills.
- Inter-cultural awareness and team integration capabilities.
- Personal effectiveness and ability to work and deliver with minimal supervision.
