Compounding Pharmacy Technician

Job Summary

Essential Functions

Assist pharmacists in filling inpatient orders, documenting activities, monitoring stock for outdated medications, and disposing of medications.
Compound medications according to USP <797> regulations.
Perform sterile compounding in compliance with USP <797> regulations.
Perform sterile compounding of hazardous medications according to USP <800> regulations.
Assist with sterile compounding competencies.
Complete all Simplifi activities and inspections.
Prepare, deliver, and collect all pharmacy items throughout the facility.
Restock IV room supplies.
Restock automated dispensing cabinets.
Perform floor checks, stock checks, and assigned unit reviews.
Prepackage medications.
Answer the telephone and assist callers with inquiries that do not require the professional judgment of a Pharmacist.
Assist customers at the service window.
Complete mandatory education and training to maintain competencies, requirements, certification, and/or licensure.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate’s degree or completion of college coursework.
Compound Sterile Preparation (CPhT-CSP) certification from the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB).
Previous experience as a Pharmacy Technician.
Experience in a hospital inpatient pharmacy.
Experience in a USP <797>-compliant sterile products compounding room.
Experience with Epic electronic health record or similar programs.
Understanding of medical terminology and calculations.

High School Diploma or Equivalent required

Pharmacy Technician [State License] required

Pharmacy Technician Certification [CPhT] - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) required

Experience
Previous hospital-related experience, formal training, or certification from a pharmacy technician training program desired 1-2 years

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Perform intermediate mathematical calculations associated with preparing non-sterile, extemporaneously manufactured pharmaceutical products and other medication doses.
- Follow all applicable state and federal controlled substance regulations.
- Continuously improve skills necessary of area-specific technology, including, but not limited to, robotics, automation, software, equipment, and information system.
- Read, interpret, and follow complex verbal and written instructions to prepare medications in a sterile environment in an accurate manner.
