Description

Job Summary:

The Brokerage Director is responsible for leading TAKKION’s enterprise freight brokerage function and overseeing the effective use of third-party carrier capacity across the organization. This role owns the strategy, execution, financial performance, carrier management, pricing discipline, and continuous improvement of brokerage operations in support of TAKKION’s transportation needs and business objectives.

The Brokerage Director provides leadership across customer pricing, carrier procurement, market intelligence, brokerage execution, team performance, technology utilization, and operational controls. The position partners closely with business segment leaders to understand transportation demand, ensure reliable capacity, improve service and cost performance, and identify opportunities to strengthen margins and overall transportation economics. The role is accountable for maintaining a scalable, disciplined, and data-driven brokerage operation that can evolve with TAKKION’s business needs and market conditions.

Responsibilities/Essential Functions:

  • Lead the strategy, day-to-day operation, and ongoing development of TAKKION’s enterprise freight brokerage function.
  • Oversee third-party brokered freight execution across the organization and promote consistent processes, service standards, and operating controls.
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve customer-facing pricing strategies for standard-dimension freight, including dry van, flatbed, and step-bed transportation as well as over dimensional freight.
  • Use internal transportation data, historical buying behavior, and external market intelligence to support competitive pricing, improve win rates, and protect profitability.
  • Oversee carrier procurement and buy-side pricing strategies to secure reliable capacity at competitive rates and improve gross margin performance.
  • Maintain strong carrier sourcing, negotiation, qualification, onboarding, utilization, and performance management practices.
  • Own enterprise standards for carrier qualification and continuous monitoring, including the effective use of tools such as Highway, Bluewire, and other applicable platforms.
  • Monitor freight market conditions, capacity trends, rate movements, and other industry developments that may affect transportation cost, service, or availability.
  • Establish and manage key performance indicators for brokerage revenue, gross margin, carrier costs, pricing performance, service, productivity, and operational efficiency.
  • Manage brokerage financial performance, including productivity and seat-cost P&L analysis, and use results to inform staffing, performance management, resource allocation, and incentive decisions.
  • Lead, coach, develop, and retain brokerage personnel while ensuring the organization has the appropriate skills and capacity to meet current and future business needs.
  • Make staffing, organizational, and talent recommendations based on business demand, performance, productivity, and strategic priorities.
  • Establish clear performance expectations and accountability for individual contributors and brokerage leadership.
  • Partner with business segment leaders to understand current and anticipated transportation needs and ensure brokerage resources are aligned accordingly.
  • Maintain an effective operating interface between the centralized brokerage function and TAKKION’s business segments.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage enterprise freight volume, carrier relationships, purchasing patterns, and market conditions to improve transportation economics.
  • Oversee the effective use of transportation management systems, pricing platforms, market-data tools, and related technology.
  • Evaluate and implement technology-enabled improvements, including automation and AI-assisted tools, where they enhance pricing, data quality, market intelligence, productivity, or execution.
  • Develop and maintain brokerage policies, procedures, controls, and documentation that support consistent execution, compliance, and scalability.
  • Develop and implement carrier scorecards utilizing external and internal data.
  • Ensure brokerage activities comply with applicable laws, regulations, company policies, contractual requirements, and carrier standards.
  • Collaborate with Finance and other stakeholders to improve visibility into brokerage profitability, transportation spend, cost savings, and performance trends.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on service, efficiency, carrier performance, pricing accuracy, margin, and operational scalability.
  • Evaluate changes in business needs, market conditions, technology, and organizational structure and recommend appropriate adjustments to the brokerage operating model.
  •  Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

  • Experience across carrier procurement/sales, customer pricing/sales, and brokerage operations strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of truckload brokerage, including dry van, flatbed, and step deck freight.
  • Demonstrated experience with freight pricing, carrier negotiation, margin management, and transportation market intelligence.
  • Proficiency with transportation management systems, pricing tools, carrier monitoring platforms, and market-data resources.
  • Strong financial, analytical, leadership, negotiation, communication, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to lead teams, influence cross-functional stakeholders, and drive operational performance in a fast-paced environment.
