M01 - System Tester

About the Project

We are supporting a client in migrating a legacy application from Sybase ASE to Microsoft SQL Server, while maintaining existing business functionality and system behaviour.

The system comprises a Sybase database, PowerBuilder desktop application, Java applications and batch jobs.

We are looking for a System Tester to support functional, integration and migration testing, ensuring the migrated system continues to meet existing business requirements and expected system behaviour.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute test scenarios, test cases and test scripts based on functional requirements.
• Perform functional, system, integration and regression testing.
• Validate migrated application functionality against the existing legacy system.
• Test business processes, workflows, interfaces, batch jobs and system integrations.
• Perform data validation and migration testing between Sybase ASE and Microsoft SQL Server.
• Use SQL to validate data, queries, stored procedures and expected results where required.
• Identify, document and track defects, and work with developers and BAs on resolution.
• Analyse discrepancies between legacy and migrated systems and determine expected behaviour versus defects.
• Support UAT preparation and execution.
• Maintain test evidence, test results and defect documentation.
• Work closely with BAs, developers, database engineers and client stakeholders throughout the testing lifecycle.

Must Have

• 3+ years of experience in software testing, system testing or QA.
• Strong experience in functional, system, integration and regression testing.
• Experience preparing test cases, test scenarios and test documentation.
• Good understanding of SQL and relational databases.
• Experience with data validation and database testing.
• Experience in defect management and root-cause analysis.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication skills and ability to work with business and technical teams.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Sybase ASE and/or Microsoft SQL Server.
• Experience testing PowerBuilder / DataWindows applications.
• Experience testing Java applications and batch jobs.
• Experience with database migration or legacy system modernisation.
• Knowledge of T-SQL / Sybase T-SQL.
• Experience with Jira, Confluence or similar test/defect management tools.
