General Manager

The position is responsible for leading and overseeing the overall operations, profitability, and strategic direction of the construction business. It ensures the successful execution of projects through effective management of construction operations, engineering, project delivery, commercial activities, finance, procurement, and organizational resources. The role drives business growth, operational excellence, regulatory compliance, client satisfaction, and sustainable profitability while serving as the key leader responsible for achieving the company's strategic and financial objectives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

• Lead the overall management and performance of the construction business, ensuring alignment with corporate goals and growth strategies.
• Develop and execute business plans, operational strategies, and organizational initiatives that drive profitability and long-term growth.
• Oversee the end-to-end execution of construction projects, ensuring delivery within approved timelines, budgets, quality standards, and safety requirements.
• Monitor project performance, resource utilization, contract execution, risk exposure, and financial results across all active projects.
• Direct and coordinate Engineering, Construction, Project Management, Procurement, Finance, HR, Equipment, and Administrative functions.
• Ensure compliance with government regulations, building codes, environmental regulations, occupational health and safety standards, and contractual obligations.
• Lead project bidding, contract negotiations, project mobilization, and commercial reviews to maximize business opportunities and profitability.
• Maintain strong relationships with clients, project owners, consultants, contractors, developers, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
• Drive operational efficiencies, productivity improvements, cost management initiatives, and process standardization across the organization.
• Oversee annual budgeting, financial forecasting, cash flow management, working capital requirements, and overall business performance.
• Review project financials, margin performance, cost controls, claims management, and revenue recognition activities.
• Identify business risks, develop mitigation strategies, and ensure effective governance and internal controls.
• Lead organizational development initiatives, workforce planning, succession planning, and leadership development programs.
• Build a culture of accountability, safety, collaboration, customer focus, and operational excellence.
• Evaluate expansion opportunities, strategic partnerships, investments, and new business development initiatives.
• Provide regular business performance updates and strategic recommendations to shareholders, directors, and executive leadership.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

• You must have a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field. A licensed Civil Engineer is highly preferred.
• You must have at least 15 years of progressive experience in the construction industry.
• You must have at least 5 years of senior leadership experience as a General Manager, Operations Director, Construction Director, Project Director, or equivalent executive role.
• You must have extensive experience managing multiple construction projects, business units, or large-scale construction operations simultaneously.
• You must have strong knowledge of construction project management, contract administration, cost management, procurement, and commercial operations.
• You must have proven experience managing P&L, financial performance, business planning, and organizational growth.
• You must have strong understanding of construction laws, building regulations, government contracting requirements, and safety standards.
• You must have experience in project bidding, contract negotiations, claims management, and client relationship management.
• You must have excellent leadership, strategic planning, stakeholder management, and decision-making capabilities.
• You must have strong business acumen and the ability to balance operational execution with long-term strategic planning.
• You must possess excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
• You must demonstrate high integrity, strong execution capability, and the ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced, results-driven environment.
