Commissioning Superintendent

Job Description:

The Commissioning Superintendent is responsible for coordinating construction activities through commissioning, integrated systems testing (IST), and turnover of mission-critical data center facilities. This role ensures that all electrical, mechanical, controls, and life safety systems are constructed, tested, and commissioned according to the project schedule to meet stringent quality, reliability, redundancy, and uptime requirements. The Commissioning Superintendent serves as the primary field leader during commissioning and supports safe, on-schedule delivery of facilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Lead field execution during L2-L3 activities and provide support for L4-L5 activities.
• Oversee construction completion for critical systems including electrical, mechanical, and controls.
• Monitor and drive commissioning schedule in the field for all parties, identifying and eliminating blockers daily.
• Work with Energy Marshals to enact all Energy Control Plan tasks, including MOP and LOTO execution.
• Ensure the construction schedule aligns with the commissioning schedule, plans, sequencing, and turnover requirements.
• Lead field execution of and adherence to the Equipment Protection Plan.
• Communicate status, risks, and readiness to project leadership and client teams.

JOB DETAILS

• Support peer project staff in coordination of OFCI equipment deliveries, MEP installation, and general construction readiness in alignment to the commissioning schedule.
• Enforce adherence to Ryan's site-specific safety plan and procedures and Energy Control Plan.
• Verify MOPs, Energizations, FOD Inspections are completed accurately.
• Conduct OFCI Equipment Vendor onboarding meetings, ensuring all equipment vendors understand and are compliant with Ryan's site policies and procedures.
• Check in with equipment vendors' onsite teams each day to ensure compliance with planned commissioning activities.
• Review issues / observations regularly and push trade partners and equipment vendors for quick resolution.
• Monitor L2 and L3 documentation status and push trade partners and equipment vendors for timely and accurate submission.
• Coordinate between trade partners and equipment vendors in the field to perform all L2 and L3 activities in accordance with the commissioning schedule.
• Enforce adherence to the Equipment Protection Plan by performing inspections of protection measures. Report any deficiencies and coordinate corrective actions with trade partners and Ryan labor.
• Attend all L2/L3 and L4/L5 meetings. Be able to speak to field activities and issues.
• Coordinate and attend L2 Readiness Walks and FOD Inspections for all equipment, per the commissioning schedule.
• Assist with development of periodic project updates for internal and external use.
• Assist with planning and scheduling of equipment vendor and trade partner crews and staff to the project.
• Assist in coordinating commissioning activities with construction, commissioning agents (CxA), owners, and operations teams.
• Review project progress onsite and assist with schedule progress updates.
• Actively support field troubleshooting during inspections, energizations, and testing. Coordinate corrective actions for deficiencies.
• Oversee and work alongside project team to review, address, and support closeout of equipment observations found during L2-L5 tasks.
• Review commissioning scripts and test procedures.
• Perform quality control monitoring and inspections to ensure system and equipment installation meets design intent, specifications, and data center standards.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

• High school diploma or equivalent (technical or trade background strongly preferred)
• 8+ years of construction supervision experience in mission-critical or data center environments
• Extensive experience with electrical and mechanical commissioning of critical systems
• Strong understanding of redundancy concepts, system interdependencies, and sequencing
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, single-line diagrams, and commissioning scripts
• Demonstrated leadership in safety-critical environments
• Familiarity with data center commissioning best practices
• OSHA 30, NFPA 70E, or equivalent safety certifications
