2027 Winter Student Opportunities Technology & Operations - Quantum Technologies Intern, 8 Months

What is the opportunity?
The Quantum technologies intern will join the fast-paced, multi-disciplinary Innovation Group at RBC  to explore where quantum technologies can augment finance capabilities to bring impact and advantage. We are seeking blue-sky thinkers who want to determine true applicability of their ideas in a wide variety of quantum fields to the financial sector. Those who are interested in learning about the intersection of quantum technologies with finance are encouraged to apply.  This is a small, new team so self-driven candidates are a must. 

What will you do?

• Participating in experiments and theory development towards proof of concepts of financial applications of quantum technology
• Developing either algorithms, protocols, sensors, or networking techniques depending on your skill sets
• Researching and determining successful applications for quantum technologies for finance
• Benchmarking performance and documenting research and outcomes
• Collaboration with external vendors and university partners on research
• Supporting the broader Innovation team as needed
  

What do you need to succeed?
Must-have

• Currently enrolled at a Canadian post-secondary institution with a focus on Math in Computer Science (Quantum Information), or MScAC in Quantum Computing or equivalent
• Excellent interpersonal and highly developed communication skills (verbal and written)
• Creative and analytical thinker who is self-driven and capable of working in a fast-paced environment
• Strong MS Office skills – Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint
• Knowledge of programming and scripting languages - Python
• Communication, Time Management, Leadership, Stakeholder Engagement, Analytical Thinking, Problem Solving, Results Driven, Curiosity, Strategic Thinking

Nice-to-have

• Understanding of IT Standards, Methodologies (SDLC, PMF)
• Knowledge of Business Analysis Processes (requirements gathering, documentation, use cases)
