**Position is eligible to work from home for candidates who reside in or near the Des Moines, IA metro**

As a Heavy Equipment Physical Damage Appraiser, you’ll use your technical expertise to evaluate damage, prepare and review repair estimates, and negotiate fair, cost-effective settlements. You’ll play an important role in helping customers get back on track by ensuring claims are handled accurately, efficiently, and with a positive experience. You’ll also serve as a trusted resource to the claims team, providing guidance on complex repairs, total losses, and heavy equipment damage.

Essential Functions:

• Investigates and evaluates moderately complex heavy equipment/truck damage claims and losses

• Reviews the loss notice and policy to verify coverage, deductibles, loss payee/mortgagees and confirms that the loss occurred within the coverage period

• Evaluates repair shop and independent appraiser estimates to determine accuracy

• Evaluates photos to determine if damages are consistent with loss or prior unrelated damages

• Evaluates vehicle values and repair costs to establish repair ability versus total loss

• Performs field inspections and prepares physical damage estimates

• Resolves questions of coverage, liability and the value of claims 

• Negotiates, settles and/or resolves moderately complex claims and losses

• Sets adequate reserves to cover exposure

• Prepares damage estimates using electronic estimating software or by calculating manually

• Negotiates claim settlement with insureds, claimants and attorneys

• Negotiates agreed repair price with repair facility

• Issues payments within check authority

• Responds to questions from the insureds, claimants and agents

Education & Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalency

• Five years of experience with truck/heavy equipment collision/mechanical repair, truck/heavy equipment claims, or truck/heavy equipment sales, or related experience

• Multiple state insurance adjuster and appraiser licenses required within 6 months of hire

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Strong technical knowledge of heavy equipment/truck collision repair techniques and standards

• Good knowledge of engine, mechanical, & hydraulics repair techniques and standards

• Knowledge of electronic estimating software

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, conflict resolution, and negotiation abilities

• Knowledge of personal computers

• Occasional travel required; a valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle report per company standards required if traveling

The hiring salary range for this position will vary based on geographic location, falling within either of the following:

$60,813 - $84,038 or $67,200 - $92,395

A hiring range represents a subset of the full salary range. The actual salary will depend on several factors, including relevant education, skills, and experience of an applicant, geographic location, and business needs.
