Description

Overview

Storion Energy manufactures long-duration vanadium redox flow battery electrolyte at our Alpharetta, Georgia facility, and is expanding the site to include stack manufacturing. The Day Shift Supervisor leads the day-shift production team — accountable for safe execution of the daily schedule, the quality of what the shift produces, and the development of the operators and technicians who make it.

We are looking for a working supervisor — on the floor, running the process, coaching operators, and solving problems as they happen — who wants to grow with the site as we add new products, process', and requirements

This position requires you to be on-site daily in our Alpharetta, GA, facility.

Responsibilities

SHIFT EXECUTION & PRODUCTION

  • Run the daily production schedule: sequence work, assign staffing and equipment, and adjust in real time to keep the shift on plan.
  • Own throughput, yield, and schedule attainment for the shift. Escalate deviations with a clear picture of cause and impact.
  • Lead structured shift start-up and handoff — documented every day, covering equipment status, open issues, and in-process material.
  • Keep production, downtime, and consumption records accurate and entered on shift, not after the fact.
  • Take on stack assembly as the site expands — help stand up the line and supervise both electrolyte and stack production.

QUALITY & PRODUCTION DISCIPLINE

  • Verify production records are complete, legible, and accurate before material moves. No shortcuts on documentation.
  • Ensure in-process checks and sampling happen per procedure, at the right point in the process, by qualified operators.
  • Identify, segregate, and hold nonconforming material; preserve lot traceability at every transfer.
  • Hold the shift to written SOPs; flag procedures that no longer match reality so they get corrected.

SAFETY LEADERSHIP

  • Run the pre-shift safety brief and regular toolbox talks — set the tone in the first ten minutes.
  • Enforce PPE discipline in acid and vanadium-bearing service — no exceptions for convenience or schedule pressure.
  • Report and investigate near-misses and incidents on shift. Act as first responder for spills and exposures.
  • Hold the shift accountable for housekeeping and equipment condition.

INVENTORY, SHIPPING & RECEIVING

  • Own inventory accuracy for raw materials, consumables, and finished product — cycle counts, transactions recorded on shift, and discrepancies investigated.
  • Receive inbound materials: verify quantity and documentation against the PO, inspect for damage, and stage or quarantine appropriately.
  • Prepare and ship outbound orders — pick and stage product, confirm labeling and paperwork, and coordinate carriers.
  • Ensure hazardous material shipments are packaged, labeled, and documented to DOT requirements.
  • Flag shortages and reorder points before they interrupt production.

PEOPLE & DEVELOPMENT

  • Train, coach, and qualify operators against the training matrix; sign off on qualifications only when the operator can actually do the job unsupervised.
  • Onboard new hires — pair them well, check in often, and get them productive without cutting corners on safety training.
  • Own day-to-day timekeeping, attendance, and PTO coverage for the shift.
  • Give direct, timely feedback. Escalate performance and personnel matters to the Director early, with documentation.

MAINTENANCE & IMPROVEMENT

  • First-line troubleshooting on process issues. Develop a knowledge of when to fix it and when to call for help.
  • Coordinate with engineering on preventive work and breakdowns.
  • Participate in root-cause investigations and see corrective actions through on the floor.
  • Drive shift-level improvements — 5S, standard work, and small changes that make the next shift's job easier.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required. Associate degree, technical certificate, or military technical training a plus.
  • 5+ years in chemical, industrial, or process manufacturing, including 2+ years leading a crew as a supervisor, lead operator, or shift lead.
  • Hands-on experience handling hazardous or corrosive chemicals with the required PPE and permitting discipline.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA general industry requirements — lockout/tagout, hazard communication, confined space, and PPE.
  • Comfortable with batch records, SOPs, and shop-floor data entry; solid basic computer proficiency.
  • Forklift experience required; current certification or ability to certify on hire.
  • Able to read P&IDs and work confidently around pumps, tanks, valves, and instrumentation.

PREFERRED

  • Experience at a startup or ramping facility, where procedures are still being written and new lines are being added.
  • OSHA 30 (General Industry), HAZWOPER training, or current first aid / CPR certification.
  • Exposure to lean, 5S, or structured continuous-improvement methods.
  • Familiarity with SCADA or plant data systems for production entry and monitoring.
  • Experience supervising assembly or discrete manufacturing in addition to process or batch production.
  • Bilingual English / Spanish.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • On-site at the Alpharetta facility with the majority of the shift spent on the production floor in PPE — acid-resistant clothing, face shield, and respirator as required.
  • Exposure to chemical odors and noise; occasional lifting up to 25 lbs. Must be medically cleared for respirator use.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • 401(k)
  • Paid time off
  • Dental insurance
  • Medical, Vision, Dental (Company paid premiums)
  • Life, LTD, STD, dependent care FSA
