Working under the immediate supervision of a pharmacist, the Pharmacy Technician I role interacts with patients and health care providers to perform a variety of technical pharmaceutical tasks including triaging medication-related communications and maintaining the electronic medical record.
The Pyxis Pharmacy Technician I will assist the Pharmacist in professional activities and perform assigned tasks in to maintain medications stocked within clinic areas. The Pyxis Technician role interacts with healthcare providers to perform a variety of technical pharmaceutical tasks including refilling automated dispensing machines and maintaining clinic floor stock.
This is a Full Time role (Monday thru Friday) working at our South Lake Union campus.
Responsibilities
- Prepares, packages and labels medication in an accurate and efficient manner.
- Online processing of prescription orders including billing appropriately and accurately
- Triage incoming phone calls and electronic messages relating to medications.
- Interact with professional and technical staff in a courteous manner.
- Cleaning and restocking pharmacy areas.
- Follows inventory control processes performing cycle counts and checking outdates.
- Accurately operates CII safe and follows all controlled substance procedures.
- Direct clinical inquiries requiring a pharmacist's professional judgment to a pharmacist.
- Answer inquiries not requiring a pharmacist's professional judgment.
- Assist in the training of pharmacy technicians, apprentices, and interns.
- Other pharmacy related duties in accordance with regulations under Washington State Pharmacy Quality Assurance Commission
- Know and follow all Pharmacy Department and Fred Hutch policies and procedures, as well as all applicable state and federal laws.
- Provides good customer service to clinic by being attentive and quick to respond to emails and phone calls and follow through on problems and assistance for help
- Pyxis Medstations refills of medications on a daily basis at SLU
- Outdate all soon-to-be expired medications on a monthly basis
- Refill Pyxis stations at community site locations including Issaquah, Proton Center, Fred Hutch Hospital on a regular basis
- Complete weekly Inventory CII safes at SLU Fred Hutch
- Provide medications for clinic floor stock locations with receipt of approved order form
- Also include providing weekly contrast order to CT department
- Replenishment of RPh code box/imaging emergency box/crash cart trays
- Deliver RPh code box to rapid responses in SLU during the hours of 830-1730 Monday through Friday
- Annual Fred Hutch flu clinic campaign
- Provide daily restock of flu vaccines to coolers located throughout SLU clinic buildings and Pyxis stations
- Internship/apprenticeship/pharmacist onboarding
- Train Fred Hutch P1 interns and current pharmacy technician apprentices on Pyxis Medications and CII safes
Qualifications
Required:
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Current Washington state pharmacy technician license
- Ability to perform pharmaceutical calculations
- Ability to communicate verbally in person, on the phone, and in writing in a clear, concise and professional manner
- Familiar with the generic names of drugs along with their basic indication
- Ability to use pharmacy computer systems and order entry in an accurate and efficient manner
- Excellent analytical skills.
- Experience with Electronic Medical Records.

Preferred:
- Certified as a Washington State Pharmacy Technician from an accredited technical institute
- Experience in a retail pharmacy
- Oncology knowledge
- Experience with electronic medical records
