ICT Instructor

Description

The Fiber Optics Instructor is responsible for delivering hands-on and classroom-based training utilizing the Light Brigade Fiber Optics 1-2-3 curriculum. This position prepares students for careers in telecommunications, broadband infrastructure, data centers, and network construction by teaching fiber optic installation, fusion splicing, testing, troubleshooting, and industry safety practices. The instructor will create an engaging learning environment that supports student success and workforce readiness.

Preferred Credentials

• Light Brigade Fiber Optics 1-2-3 Certification (preferred)
• BICSI Installer 1 (INST1) Certification (preferred)
• OSHA 10 Certification or equivalent safety training
• Additional industry certifications are a plus

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Deliver classroom and hands-on instruction in fiber optic theory and practical applications, including installation, termination, fusion splicing, testing, and troubleshooting.
• Facilitate laboratory training using industry-standard tools and equipment, including fusion splicers, OTDRs, power meters, and other testing devices.
• Prepare students to earn Light Brigade certifications and other industry-recognized credentials.
• Demonstrate and enforce proper safety procedures and maintain compliance with all lab safety standards.
• Develop, maintain, and deliver lesson plans, assignments, assessments, and skills evaluations through the Canvas Learning Management System.
• Evaluate student performance, monitor progress, and provide coaching and feedback to support successful completion and employment outcomes.
• Maintain accurate attendance, grading, and student performance records.
• Collaborate with program staff, career coaches, and employer partners to align training with workforce needs.
• Assist with curriculum improvements and support continuous program enhancement.
• Foster a positive, professional, and inclusive learning environment.

Requirements

• Associate degree in Telecommunications, Information Technology, Engineering Technology, Construction Technology, or a related field preferred.
• Minimum of 1-3 years of documented industry experience in fiber optics, telecommunications, broadband, network infrastructure, or a related field.
• Experience with fiber optic installation, fusion splicing, testing, and troubleshooting.
• Prior teaching, training, mentoring, or workforce development experience preferred.
• Strong communication, presentation, and classroom management skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and learning management systems such as Canvas.
• Ability to lift and transport training equipment and work in both classroom and laboratory 

Additional Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Support student recruitment efforts by participating in outreach events, information sessions, career fairs, enrollment workshops, and community partner engagements.
• Serve as a program ambassador by promoting careers in fiber optics, broadband, telecommunications, and related industries.
• Collaborate with enrollment specialists and career coaches to support student enrollment, retention, and completion goals.
• Maintain flexibility to deliver instruction during daytime, evening, and occasional weekend schedules based on program and student needs.
