Compensation Package
- Salary Range: $150,000 - $180,000 annually
Responsibilities
Underwriting Excellence:
- Underwrite new business, renewals, and endorsement referrals to achieve financial targets for growth and profitability.
- Provide oversight and guidance to junior underwriting staff, ensuring compliance with corporate and regulatory requirements.
- Identify underwriting issues and recommend corrective actions to maintain underwriting discipline.
Business Development:
- Develop and nurture strong partnerships with agents to promote the company’s franchise and identify new business opportunities.
- Drive enhanced business opportunities across other lines of business and customer segments.
- Engage with customers on complex and high-profile accounts to improve yield and retention ratios.
- Collect market intelligence to advocate for product and service improvements.
Portfolio Management:
- Manage the portfolio for assigned territories, analyzing industry performance and recommending corrective actions as needed.
- Monitor underwriting results and implement strategies to improve profitability.
- Stay informed on industry trends, regulatory changes, and competitor activities.
Underwriting Development and Support:
- Coach and mentor underwriters on best practices and selling techniques.
- Analyze key metrics to uncover trends and drive profitable growth.
- Support profit improvement initiatives and contribute to the development of new product capabilities.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; professional designations preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of Inland Marine underwriting experience across various classes of business.
- Strong expertise in underwriting, book management, marketing, and product development.
- Proven ability to coach and mentor underwriters while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional communication skills, including face-to-face interactions, presentations, and written correspondence.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate and influence across multiple organizational levels.
- High degree of business, insurance, and marketplace knowledge.
- Willingness to travel by plane or car as needed.
