Opportunity Details

Capital Medical Group (CMG) is seeking a full-time, fellowship-trained Total Joint Replacement (Adult Reconstruction) Orthopaedic Surgeon to join the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at The George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC. This role offers a concurrent faculty appointment at the GW School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS), a base salary plus wRVU productivity and academic stipend compensation model, and the opportunity to teach orthopaedic residents and medical students at an academic Level I Trauma Center, allowing you to focus on a primary and revision hip and knee arthroplasty practice while working alongside a collaborative, multidisciplinary orthopaedic team.

  • Support / Care Team: Advanced practice providers, nursing staff, orthopaedic residents (5-year ACGME program), and medical students
  • EMR / Technology: GW Hospital (Cerner) / CMG Outpatient (Epic)

Responsibilities

  • Perform primary total hip and total knee arthroplasty, including conventional and robotic- or navigation-assisted techniques
  • Perform revision hip and knee arthroplasty, including management of periprosthetic joint infection, periprosthetic fracture, and component failure
  • Manage hip preservation and complex reconstructive procedures as clinically indicated
  • Participate in the hospital's bundled-payment and value-based care initiatives for joint replacement, including perioperative pathway and length-of-stay optimization
  • Provide inpatient consultation for periprosthetic fracture and reconstruction-related trauma
  • Supervise orthopaedic residents and medical students in clinic and the operating room as part of the dedicated Adult Reconstruction rotation
  • Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, and support staff to manage day-to-day clinical responsibilities
  • Document care using the GW Hospital / CMG electronic health record

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: Base salary + annual wRVU-based productivity incentive + academic stipend for GW SMHS teaching, mentorship, and scholarly responsibilities; final amount commensurate with training/experience and determined per CMG Fair Market Value compensation review

Qualifications

  • M. D. or D.O. from an accredited medical school, with successful completion of an ACGME-accredited Orthopaedic Surgery residency and an ACGME-accredited fellowship in Adult Reconstruction / Total Joint Arthroplasty
  • Board Certified / Board Eligible by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS) with a Certificate of Added Qualification (CAQ) in Surgery of the Hand, or equivalent certification through the American Board of Plastic Surgery or American Board of Surgery pathway
  • Active or eligible District of Columbia medical license
  • Eligible for and able to maintain medical staff privileges at GW Hospital and a faculty appointment at GW SMHS

Growth & Development

  • Academic rank and track (tenure, clinical, or research) commensurate with training and experience, with a path for promotion through the GW SMHS appointments and promotions process
  • Mentorship, teaching, and academic involvement through supervision of orthopaedic residents and medical students, and participation in scholarly activity (clinical research, case series, QI projects, national presentations)
