Description
The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of skilled trades work involving mechanical, electrical, carpentry, plumbing, HVAC systems related to remodeling, maintenance, and repair of County buildings, building equipment and systems and is responsible for completion of assigned tasks; assures compliance with applicable State and Local building and safety codes and standards. Performs landscaping and housekeeping duties.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS |
High School Diploma or GED, and four (4) years building or grounds maintenance experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which demonstates the ability to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the job. |
PROFESSIONAL CREDENTIALS REQUIRED/PREFERRED |
Ability to obtain Department of Corrections Clearance if assigned to supervise inmate worker activities. Ability to obtain Locksmith Certification within twelve (12) months of employment. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License. |

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED |
Knowledge of institutional equipment and systems, including heating, air conditioning and ventilation and their maintenance. Cleaning procedures, practices, supplies and equipment; occupational safety hazards; knowledge of commercial kitchen and laundry equipment maintenance; knowledge of building maintenance operations and activities; regulations pertaining to facility/detention facility building and fire codes, safety precautions, plan drawings, blue prints; knowledge of all aspects of building maintenance and repair heating, cooling, ventilation, electrical, plumbing, boiler operation; carpentry; painting; landscaping; security systems and monitors; inmate phone system. Knowledge of fire alarm systems and panel. |
SKILLS REQUIRED |
Problem recognition; troubleshooting; installing/repairing and routine maintenance.
Skills in repairing and maintaining high security and detention locks. Maintenance of fire alarms, security systems; trouble shooting skills; basic electrical theory; repairs of jail equipment, commercial kitchen equipment; building maintenance. |

Incumbents in this position are required to constantly follow written safety procedures and manuals relevant to the division or department. This position occasionally requires welding gloves, reflective road vest, rubber gloves; constantly requires safety foot wear; occasionally requires hearing protection devices and hard hat. |
