About the role

We are seeking an experienced and safety-focused Superintendent Water Management to lead all aspects of water management across the Simandou mining operation. This role is accountable for the strategic, technical and operational delivery of both groundwater and surface water management programs to support safe, sustainable and efficient mining.

The successful candidate will provide leadership across water supply, dewatering, depressurisation, hydrology, water infrastructure, monitoring programs and regulatory compliance. Working closely with operational, technical, environmental and community teams, you will ensure water-related risks and opportunities are effectively managed throughout mine planning, construction and operations.

As a member of the Mine Technical Services leadership team, you will drive continuous improvement, technical excellence and the development of a high-performing water management function.

Key responsibilities:

• Lead safe and effective delivery of site water management activities

• Develop and implement water management plans to support mine operations

• Provide technical leadership across groundwater and surface water systems.

• Ensure compliance with regulatory obligations and company standards.

• Manage water-related risks and support operational decision-making.

• Lead monitoring, reporting and performance improvement initiatives.

• Develop the water management team building capability, accountability and performance

• Collaborate with planning, operations, technical, environmental, and community teams

• Manage budgets, contracts and water management resources

• Report safety, operational, and water-performance metrics

What you’ll bring

• A focus and commitment to safety

• Significant experience (+10 years) in mine water management including water supply, dewatering, depressurisation, stormwater and sediment control

• Experience in high rainfall environments and development of wet season plans

• Degree qualified in Geosciences or related discipline

• Strong leadership and change-management capability

• Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills

• Experience of building and developing teams

• Budgeting, forecasting and cost control experience

• Capability in French and English language (written and or spoken) is considered advantageous.

About the Simandou Project
The Simandou Iron Ore Project is located in the Republic of Guinea, West Africa. It is Africa’s largest infrastructure and mining project and represents one of the largest known reserves of high-grade iron ore in the world.

Rio Tinto holds rights to Simandou Blocks 3 and 4 through SimFer, a joint venture between the Government of the Republic of Guinea, Rio Tinto and Chalco Iron Ore Holdings (CIOH). Construction of the mine, together with the associated rail and port infrastructure, is well underway with first production from the SimFer mine expected in 2025.
