The Hospitality Unit is part of the NTU Office of Commercial and Auxiliary Services (OCAS), responsible for overseeing, enhancing and optimising the University's hospitality assets to deliver exceptional guest experiences and operational excellence. Through its hospitality assets, the Unit supports NTU's mission and strategic priorities by providing world-class venues for executive education, conferences, events, dining and accommodation, positioning NTU not only as a leading academic institution but also as a premier destination for industry engagement and hospitality.

Nanyang Executive Centre (NEC) is one of the University's flagship hospitality assets managed by the Hospitality Unit. The General Manager (GM) is responsible for providing strategic leadership and overseeing NEC's overall performance, ensuring it delivers outstanding hospitality experiences while supporting the University's academic, commercial and engagement objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership for NEC, setting its long-term direction and ensuring its hospitality, commercial and business objectives support the University's strategic priorities.

  • Work closely with the appointed hotel operator, the incumbent shall lead the team in ensuring compliance with contractual obligations, agreed service standards and financial targets.

  • Establish NEC's operating and service framework by working with appointed hotel operator to develop and implement Service Level Agreements (SLAs), Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), operational policies, guest service standards, reporting frameworks and performance measures that support the successful operation of NEC.

  • Lead NEC's business and financial planning, including the review of annual business plans, operating budgets, capital expenditure proposals, forecasts and performance reports to ensure financial sustainability and achievement of commercial objectives.

  • Responsible for operational performance through regular performance reviews, operational meetings and site inspections, ensuring agreed standards for guest satisfaction, operational efficiency, quality of service and financial performance are consistently achieved.

  • Lead the planning and enhancement of NEC's hospitality and commercial assets, including maintenance, asset enhancement and lifecycle planning, ensuring the facilities remain safe, well maintained, attractive, fit for purpose and competitive.

  • Lead and develop the NEC team, building a collaborative, stakeholder-centric and high-performing culture while fostering a strong working partnership with the hotel operator and other stakeholders.

  • Identify opportunities to grow NEC's business, improve financial performance and maximise the use of its hospitality, meeting and commercial facilities through new programmes, partnerships and business opportunities.

  • Collaborate closely with University leadership including internal departments, and external partners to ensure NEC supports executive education programmes, conferences, campus events, international engagements, research collaborations and other University priorities.

  • Establish and maintain effective governance and risk management processes, ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, safety, environmental and sustainability requirements, while overseeing business continuity planning and operational resilience.

  • Monitor market trends, customer feedback and operational performance, using data and industry insights to improve services, strengthen NEC's competitiveness and support informed business decisions.

  • Promote a culture of service excellence, continuous improvement and innovation, ensuring NEC continues to enhance its reputation as NTU's preferred executive hospitality, conference and event venue.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's/Master's Degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or related field.

  • Minimum 15 years in the hospitality industry with at least 6 years in a leadership role.

  • Proven track record of managing hospitality assets, enhancing customer experiences, and driving profitability.

  • Experience working with hotel management agreements, asset management or owner representation will be advantageous.

  • Experience in managing various functions (eg. Sales & Revenue, Rooms etc) with a high drive for results and commercial acumen.

  • Familiar with budget, P&L reports, revenue management, workforce planning/optimization, sales strategies & segmentation etc.

  • Possess excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent communication and leadership skill, people-centric yet business-focused.

  • Experience in managing high-value service contracts and strategic partnerships will be advantageous.

  • Extensive experience in fostering and sustaining collaborations with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
