Overview
Job Summary
The Project Accountant is responsible for daily core project accounting functions within the job costing Deltek accounting system. Additional responsibilities include concurrent projects and acting as a liaison between accounting and project management, ensuring accurate and consistent billing and financial reporting.

Work Performed and Job Requirements
- Project Setup and Maintenance
- Partner with project managers to enter project budgets, forecasts, and client billing information, including rate tables, in Deltek Vantagepoint.
- Maintain detailed understanding of financial and billing details for each project’s contract, amendments, and modifications.
- Set up contract billing terms, prepare client invoices, and ensure accurate documentation through the project accounting system.
- Billing and Documentation
- Maintain integrity of each project’s billing files, including billing rates, invoices, supporting documentation, and approvals.
- Ensure the timeliness and accuracy of revenue reporting data for each project.
- Research and resolve discrepancies in project billing or payments with clients and apply client payments accurately.
- Reporting and Revenue Support
- Provide revenue management with detailed support on project amounts incurred, contract terms, budgets, and billing to assist in monthly revenue analysis.
- Prepare, analyze, and present project-related management reports as needed for project managers.
- Support the revenue team during the annual audit.
- Collections and Client Relations
- Assist accounting assistants and project managers with collections, ensuring timely and accurate client payments.
- Resolve any issues associated with client collections, including billing and payment discrepancies.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education/Training
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience
Minimum of 4 years of related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. Demonstrated accounting experience within a professional services firm is desirable.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Understanding of and ability to adhere to accepted accounting principles.
- High proficiency with accounting software. Deltek Vantagepoint a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; the ability to professionally communicate and coordinate with a wide range of external clients as well as internal management and administrative personnel.
- Must be highly organized, precise, and accurate in work, with strong attention to details.
- Ability to work independently, with sound fiscal and time management skills, and priority management to meet conflicting deadlines.
- Ability to make decisions using solid judgment, while complying with internal policies and applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
- Ability to maintain high standards of customer service and satisfaction.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and advanced skills in Microsoft Excel.
- Proficient in Power BI reporting and navigating Share Pointe sites.
- Superior interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage significant recurring responsibilities with unpredictable short-term demands.
- Ability to be initiative-taking and mentally flexible in order to switch gears quickly from one project to the next.
- Capable of handling confidential information in a discrete manner.
- Ability to work extended hours when deadlines are approaching.
- Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.
