The Competency Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the coordination and delivery of the competency management system, which includes organising the department induction for new operations personnel, organising structured training and assessing the competency of operations personnel to ensure they are working safely and in a proper manner following standard operating procedures to produce outputs that meet all customer and business requirements and specifications.
The role:
As a Competency Coordinator, you will help drive our goals by:
- Planning the induction process for new operations personnel into the department and organizing initial training in collaboration with production, HR, and Technical L&D teams.
- Writing/coordinating training plans, training assessments and assurance assessments alongside technical teams; ensuring safety and quality critical processes have defined competencies and are run correctly.
- Developing and planning a robust and structured shop floor-based training program for induction and production processes. Training to be carried out by the relevant department personnel. Ensuring technical training is delivered by personnel who have completed the JM Trainer course.
- Coordinating and conducting scheduled assurance assessments of the program in collaboration with competent assessors.
- Supporting the writing and maintenance/updates of standard operating procedures and training documentation to constantly meet the needs of the business, ensuring that high-risk documents are prioritized.
- Adhering to Life Saving Policies, following Site Safety Rules and working safely to EHS best practices as a mandatory condition of employment.
- Building and maintaining the competency management system (Kahuna/Power Apps), including Initial Training and Assurance in collaboration with Technical L&D team.
- Completing regular auditing of training and assessments to provide internal verification. Conduct weekly shop floor walkthroughs and perform spot checks to ensure progress and compliance with quality standards and operational procedures; Identify and report any deviations from quality standards, recommending corrective actions where necessary.
- Measuring adherence to training plan and regularly reporting competency management KPI’s to the local Production Manager via tiered meetings.
- Managing the process for re-training following non-assurance.
- Working collaboratively with Managers and Front-Line Leaders to ensure all training delivered is in line with the on-going operational plan and all training needs are fulfilled through the support and coordination of cross-training programs or the development of new training programs.
- Supporting continuous improvement and transformational efforts on site as part of the team. These include, but are not limited to, implementation and sustainability of improvements; adoption and adherence to JMPS tools and methodologies; and adoption and adherence to new software implementation / updates or applications aligned with production roles (i.e. Orchestrate, caq, Daily Management App, Tier dashboards) to meet the strategic needs of the business.
- Maintaining own expertise by keeping up to date with new processes, updates, and changes.
- Supporting the maintenance of training matrices for production personnel.
- Completing all other tasks as assigned by manager.
Key Skills the will help you succeed in this role:
- Technical Degree – Desirable
- A good understanding of a manufacturing environment – Desirable
- IT literacy and ability to learn new software systems
- Proficient in Microsoft Office packages, including Power BI – Desirable
- Good level of both written and verbal English would be required to ensure a high quality of recording and following of procedures can be followed.
- Time management and organizational skills
- Experience of coaching/mentoring colleagues – Desirable
- Excellent working knowledge of EHS policies and procedures.
