Chassis Mechanic

Maintenance Technicians are charged with repairing chassis, containers, and trailers. Repair & Replacement work includes but is not limited to, containers, lights, tires, landing legs, brakes and framework.

What You’ll Do

• Perform preventative maintenance and annual DOT inspections
• Inspect, repair, and replace brakes and brake drums
• Replace and repair tires
• Troubleshoot and repair chassis lighting and wiring, including dome lights, brake lights, and taillights
• Repair and replace landing legs, bumpers, and framework
• Repair and install suspension components, as well as pneumatic and hydraulic system parts
• Troubleshoot electrical systems and ABS (Anti-lock Brake System)
• Repair and replace air brake systems and air lines
• Perform major and minor structural chassis repairs
• Complete welding and fabrication projects as needed
• Modify, build, and repair metal frames, bodies, and trailer floors
• Perform annual federal/DOT inspections and ensure equipment meets required standards
• Operate appropriate powered industrial equipment as needed
• Perform routine preventative maintenance using industry best practices
• Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records
• Complete required paperwork accurately and on time

What You’ll Need

• High school diploma or GED
• 3+ years of experience as a chassis or trailer mechanic
• Hands-on experience replacing and repairing:
  • Brakes and brake drums
  • Tires
  • Air lines and air brake systems
  • Lighting and wiring
  • Bumpers and framework
• Your own mechanic tools, up to 1/2" drive

Certifications

Certifications are a plus, including:

• IICL certification
• DOT inspection certification
• ASI Brake Certification – a strong plus

The majority of your work will involve brake repairs and maintenance on chassis and trailers, making sure equipment is safe, reliable, and meets required standards. We’re looking for someone who is comfortable working hands-on, can troubleshoot problems, and takes pride in doing quality repairs.

Pay Range:$21.15 - $36.25
