Job Description
The Unit Head, Money Market will be responsible for leading and managing the Money Market desk within United Overseas Bank (Malaysia) Bhd, driving business growth, ensuring efficient operations, and maintaining strong risk management.
- Lead, manage, and develop the Money Market desk, including setting strategic objectives, financial targets, and operational plans.
- Manage the bank's short-term liquidity and funding requirements through active participation in interbank money markets, managing Nostro balances, and optimizing cash positions.
- Execute money market transactions including deposits, loans, repurchase agreements (repos), and foreign exchange (FX) swaps to manage interest rate risk and optimize funding costs.
- Analyze market trends, economic data, and central bank policies to formulate effective money market strategies and identify trading opportunities.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with interbank counterparties, financial institutions, and internal stakeholders.
- Ensure adherence to all internal policies, regulatory requirements, and compliance standards related to money market activities.
- Monitor and manage market risk, credit risk, and operational risk associated with money market portfolios.
- Prepare and present regular performance reports, market commentaries, and strategic recommendations to senior management.
- Mentor, coach, and develop a team of money market dealers, fostering a high-performance culture.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of money market processes, systems, and controls.
Job Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master's degree or professional certifications (e.g., FRM, CFA) are a plus.
- Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive experience in money market operations or treasury functions within a financial institution, with at least 3-5 years in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Proven track record of managing significant money market portfolios and achieving financial targets.
- Deep understanding of money market instruments, funding strategies, liquidity management, and interest rate risk management.
- Strong knowledge of financial markets, economic principles, and regulatory frameworks relevant to banking in Malaysia.
- Excellent analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities with strong communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced trading environment.
- Proficiency in financial market trading systems and Microsoft Office Suite.
