Job Summary
Practice: I&P | Global Network SONG Commerce | Areas of Work: Commerce Process Excellence, AI-Enabled Commerce Transformation, Future-State Commerce Process Design, Commerce Operating Model Redesign, Agent Experience (AX) Design, Functional Consulting.
In this role, you will produce rigorous analytical work across commerce functions — assessing how AI is reshaping the commerce operating model, designing future-state commerce processes, and building the deliverables that help senior practitioners shape transformation recommendations for clients. You are expected to bring a developing point of view on how AI and automation can reinvent the way commerce organizations manage content, discoverability, assortment, pricing, channels, and fulfilment — and to actively leverage AI tools in every aspect of your work.
You Are
You produce solid analytical work — assessing the trends and forces reshaping commerce, designing future-state content, digital shelf and channel operations processes, and building the supporting materials that help senior practitioners shape transformation recommendations. You're developing real expertise in commerce platforms, data-driven performance management, and the operating models that underpin modern commerce — and you have a point of view on how AI is changing all of it.
You understand that designing how AI agents interact within commerce processes — from content enrichment and digital shelf monitoring to assortment, pricing, and order orchestration — is just as important as the process design itself. You're starting to apply AX Design principles in your work, ensuring that how AI agents behave within each commerce workflow is as intentional as the workflow itself.
Areas of Work
Commerce Process Excellence — Commerce Operating Model, Commerce Content & Experience Design, Off-Platform & AI Discoverability, Commerce Intelligence & Optimization, Agentic Commerce Operations
Roles & Responsibilities
As part of the team, you will utilize AI tools across all tasks and deliverable creation — including building agents and other tools — to drive the following:
Commerce Trends, Forces & Benchmarking
- Produce trend and forces assessments for commerce functions — covering shifts in shopper behaviour, channel and marketplace dynamics, platform evolution, data and privacy regulation, and the growing role of AI and agents in commerce operations.
- Conduct benchmarking analyses that show where the client's commerce organization stands relative to peers across dimensions such as content quality and completeness, digital shelf performance, discoverability, conversion, operational efficiency, and AI adoption.
- Build analytical frameworks using AI-assisted data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, GenAI synthesis platforms) to surface reinvention opportunities across the commerce value chain.
Future-State Commerce Process Design
- Design future-state process specifications for core commerce workflows — including product content creation and enrichment, digital shelf and channel operations, merchandising and assortment, pricing and promotions, order management, and performance measurement — covering AI integration points, platform requirements, human-machine interaction design, and workforce adoption approaches.
- Map current-state commerce operating models and identify where AI-enabled automation, intelligent decisioning, and real-time optimization can drive step-change improvements in efficiency and effectiveness.
- Apply commerce domain knowledge to review and improve function-specific reinvention designs, capability frameworks, and commerce playbook content.
- Support delivery of digital and platform solutions — including PIM, DAM, CMS, OMS, marketplace and retail media ecosystems — across client engagements.
Change Impact & Commerce Capability Analysis
- Develop change-impact assessments for commerce transformation initiatives — documenting implications for roles, team structures, operating rhythms, governance, and capability requirements as AI is embedded into commerce workflows.
- Contribute to the reference library and keep commerce domain expertise current through continuous learning and assigned development modules.
AX Design Application in Commerce
- Apply AX Design principles when specifying or reviewing AI integration designs across commerce processes — defining how AI agents should behave within each step of the commerce lifecycle, what they handle autonomously (e.g., content variant generation, digital shelf monitoring, price and availability checks), and when they hand off to a human practitioner.
- Ensure AX Design documentation is embedded within commerce process specifications and is consistent across all content, channel, and platform deliverables.
Professional & Technical Skills
- 1-4 years of experience in commerce transformation, digital commerce, process excellence, or management consulting with a commerce focus — with increasing independence across engagements.
- Demonstrated experience producing commerce trend analyses, benchmarking outputs, capability assessments, or change-impact assessments for senior stakeholder review.
- Working knowledge of how AI and automation integrate into commerce process design — including AI-driven content production, automated digital shelf management, intelligent pricing and assortment decisioning, and agent-assisted shopper journeys.
- Familiarity with the commerce technology ecosystem: product information and asset management (PIM, DAM), content management, order management (OMS), marketplace and retail media platforms, and analytics tools.
- Working understanding of AI-driven discovery and off-platform visibility — including AI-ready product content, structured product data and knowledge foundations, and visibility across answer engines and LLM surfaces.
- Hands-on experience using AI-assisted analytics, visualization, or performance tools; comfortable synthesizing large data sets into clear commerce insights.
- Ability to analyze complex commerce performance data and translate findings into structured, client-ready recommendations across process, channel mix, and operating model design.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to produce polished, senior-ready deliverables with limited direction.
- Comfortable working in fast-paced, matrixed, global consulting environments with client-facing accountability.
Additional Information
- Familiarity with process mapping or process modelling tools (e.g., Visio, Signavio) applied to commerce workflows — content supply chain design, product onboarding flows, order-to-fulfilment mapping — is a strong differentiator.
- Growing familiarity with AX Design concepts as applied to commerce — specifically how AI agent behaviours, autonomy levels, and handoff protocols are designed within content, digital shelf, merchandising, and channel execution workflows.
- Client-facing consulting or advisory experience in commerce transformation, platform enablement, or digital commerce strategy; ability to build credibility with commerce and commercial leadership.
- Experience with end-to-end commerce operations — from product onboarding and content enrichment through activation, merchandising, measurement, and optimization — is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with data-driven commerce concepts: product data governance, assortment and pricing analytics, digital shelf measurement, and attribution across channels.
- Proactive approach to continuous learning; stays current on AI developments reshaping commerce, including generative AI for content, AI-driven discovery, and agent-mediated purchasing.
