Sr Data Center Engineer

Responsibilities

We provide full-lifecycle data center and cloud engineering, 24×7×365 operations and monitoring, DCIM platform administration, analytics, and facility infrastructure reporting. Position Duties & Responsibilities 

• Lead complex data center engineering, modernization, capacity, resiliency, and infrastructure-optimization initiatives. 

• Own the technical outcome for assigned engineering workstreams; guide junior engineers and provide design authority on reviews. 

• Author reference designs and standards content across power, cooling, cabling, and compute domains. 

• Serve as senior technical interface to VA stakeholders during design reviews, site assessments, and modernization planning.

Qualifications

Requirements 

• Currently possess or be able to obtain VA Public Trust — High Risk (BI High) / Tier 4 background investigation. 
• Bachelor's degree, preferably in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer Engineering, or a related field; 8+ years of data center engineering experience with a demonstrated record leading modernization/capacity work. 
• Education substitutions (per Peraton Career & Compensation Framework): Master's degree substitutes ~2 years of required experience; Ph.D. substitutes ~5 years of required experience. In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, 4 additional years of relevant experience is acceptable (Associate's degree + 2 additional years also accepted for equivalent professional levels). 

Desired Skills, Tools & Certifications 

• Tools: Data center monitoring and management tools including Nlyte Asset Optimizer / Energy Optimizer (DCIM), ServiceNow (ITSM/CMDB), SolarWinds, Nagios, PRTG, PuTTY, Wireshark, PowerShell, Python, Power BI, MS Visio, and SharePoint. plus AutoCAD, TileFlow familiarity. 
• Processes: ITIL v4 service management, SAFe Agile / Scrum for iterative delivery, NIST 800-53 / RMF, ISO 27001, TIA-942, ASHRAE TC 9.9, VA CRISP alignment, NFPA 70/70E, and OSHA safety practices.; TIA-942, VA Handbook 7002. 
• Certifications (desirable): PE (Electrical or Mechanical), BICSI RCDD, Uptime Institute ATD/ATS, EPI CDCP/CDCS/CDCE, LEED AP, CEM., ITIL v4 Foundation (Practitioner/Managing Professional a plus), SAFe Practitioner or SAFe DevOps.

Target Salary Range

$104,000 - $166,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
