This job description is intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by employees assigned to this department. GENERAL DUTIES

  • Performance of Venipuncture and Skin Puncture:
    - Performs venipuncture and skin puncture in accordance with department SOP.
  • Workload Management:
    - Adheres to SOP in the use of handheld devices for specimen collection for patient.
    - Monitors collection list and document status of outstanding collections where specimens are not collected.
  • Specimen Pick Up and Delivery:
    - Ensures that STAT specimens are delivered to the Lab within 15 minutes of collection or pick up.
  • Specimen Handling and Receipt:
    - Ensures that specimens are updated to receive status, correct data is reflected in terms of collect date/time and receipt date/time.
    - Delivers to the appropriate Lab Section immediately upon receipt.
  • Quality Assurance Related Duties:
    - Communicates complaints or problems to department supervisor.
    - Collects data for quality assurance program as outlined by department SOP or instruction by department supervisor.
    - Maintains thorough and neat documentation.
  • Monitoring and Clearing the Not Received report:
    - Responsible for monitoring and clearing collection pending reports on a continuous basis.


EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS

High School Diploma/GED OR 2 years of applicable experience OR Phlebotomist Certification required.
