Job Description

JOB TITLE:  Gamification Designer - 12 Month FTC

SALARY: £40,824 - £45,360

LOCATION: Dundee or Edinburgh, however, one day a week in the Dundee office is required.

HOURS: Full Time

WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites. Colleagues with disabilities can be supported with workplace adjustments including hybrid working expectations in line with our Flexibility Works policy.

About the Role

We’re looking for someone who can work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary design team, with a willingness to learn from and collaborate with other Interaction Designers.

You’ll be comfortable working with existing design systems, passionate about great user experiences and curious about how interactive experiences, game mechanics and behavioural design can be used to engage and motivate customers.

What you’ll be doing

  • Design engaging user interfaces, journeys and interactive experiences using components from our central design system to create clear and accessible customer experiences.

  • Bring your ideas to life through prototyping tools such as Figma, Rive, Unity or Adobe XD.

  • Balance business requirements with user needs, working with our researchers to validate ideas and align with internal customers on individual user needs. You’ll know when to diplomatically push back, if necessary, to act on what’s right for the customer.

  • Work closely with researchers, content designers, games developers and product owners throughout the design process.

  • Explore how game mechanics, progression systems, feedback loops and gamification techniques can make complex topics easier to understand and more engaging.

  • Document game mechanics, experience flows and design decisions so they can be clearly understood and delivered by multidisciplinary teams.

  • Be adaptable to the technical constraints of different platforms yet still be able to give guidance on creating the best possible end user experience.

  • Champion inclusive and accessible design for customers with a wide range of needs, abilities and levels of financial confidence.

Why join us?

We’re transforming at pace. Investing billions in our people, data and tech to change the way we meet the needs of our 28 million customers. We’re growing, and we’d love you to be part of the journey.

What we’re looking for?

  • A minimum 2 years work experience as a designer or developer.

  • A demonstrable Human Centred Design approach.

  • A willingness to present designs to stakeholders and adapt them based on feedback.

  • Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including UX Writers, Service Designers, Visual Designers and Games Developers.

  • An appetite for testing designs with users, using research and insight to iterate and improve experiences.

  • Strong prototyping skills using tools such as Figma or Adobe XD.

  • Experience designing or contributing to interactive experiences using game engines such as Unity or animation tools such as Rive.

  • Knowledge of behavioural design principles and an understanding of how engagement, feedback and motivation can influence customer behaviour.

  • An ability to clearly communicate and document game concepts, mechanics, progression systems and design decisions for multidisciplinary teams.

  • An appreciation of accessibility and inclusive design.

  • Strong communication, collaboration and problem-solving skills.

We know that great talent comes from many backgrounds. Whilst this job advert may reference specific years of experience, we recognise that skills are developed in many ways, so if you have relevant, transferable experience, we encourage you to apply.
