Summary/Objective:
The Material Handler manually moves freight, stock, or other materials or perform other general labor. Includes all manual laborers to support assemblies for industrial use within the HVAC industry. The Material Handler helps support the daily functions of the assembly and production process of Nexus Valve.
Requirements
Essential Functions:
- Move freight, stock, or other materials to and from storage or production areas, loading docks, delivery vehicles, ships, or containers, by hand or using trucks, tractors, or other equipment.
- Sort cargo before loading and unloading.
- Attach identifying tags to containers or mark them with identifying information.
- Read work orders or receive oral instructions to determine work assignments or material or equipment needs.
- Stack cargo in locations, such as transit sheds or in holds of ships as directed, using pallets or cargo boards.
- Record numbers of units handled or moved, using daily production sheets or work tickets.
- Install protective devices, such as bracing, padding, or strapping, to prevent shifting or damage to items being transported.
- Maintain equipment storage areas to ensure that inventory is protected.
- Guide loads being lifted to prevent swinging.
- Pack containers and re-pack damaged containers.

Supervisory Responsibility:
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities but does serve as a coach and mentor for other positions.
Work Environment:
This job operates in a manufacturing warehouse environment. The Material Handler routinely is required to stand up to 10 hours a day. Frequently exposed to hot and humid or cold (non-weather) work environment.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
The Material Handler continually is required to utilize hand and finger dexterity to operate, finger, handle or feel assembly parts as well as reach with hands and arms. They occasionally are required to walk, climb, stoop, stretch and bend. This position continually utilizes visual acuity to build company products, operate equipment, and read technical information. This position will occasionally lift up to thirty (30) pounds.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 5:00 am – 4:00 pm. Occasional overtime may be required.
Travel – There is no travel required for this position.
Required Education and Experience:
High School graduate or GED. One or more years of assembly or manufacturing job experience. Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and packaging guide sheets and maintenance instruction manuals. Able to perform product assembly according to approved diagrams, blueprints and/or instructions manuals.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Associate degree or equivalent from a college or technical school; one year or more of related assembly experience; Familiarity with lean manufacturing.
