Description

About the Role

For our client, we are looking for an experienced Python Software Engineer to join the team on a contract basis and work on a project for a London-based asset management firm.

This is a hands-on engineering role combining Python software development with data analysis and data quality. You will work with data-intensive systems and pipelines, helping ensure that data is accurate, reliable, and efficiently processed across the platform.

You will collaborate with engineering teams and business stakeholders to understand requirements, investigate issues, improve existing solutions, and deliver reliable software and data-processing capabilities.

The ideal candidate combines strong Python engineering skills with solid analytical thinking and practical experience working with complex datasets, data pipelines, and PostgreSQL.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain Python-based applications and data-processing solutions.
  • Work with complex datasets using Python, NumPy, and pandas.
  • Analyse data across pipelines and identify data-quality issues.
  • Investigate inconsistencies, anomalies, and processing errors across different stages of data pipelines.
  • Develop and improve solutions for data validation, transformation, and processing.
  • Work with PostgreSQL databases and data-driven applications.
  • Optimise and improve existing data pipelines and engineering processes.
  • Troubleshoot application, database, and data-related issues.
  • Support root-cause analysis of data inconsistencies and system problems.
  • Write maintainable, testable, and well-structured Python code.
  • Apply sound software engineering practices throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Use AI coding tools or coding agents as part of the software development workflow.
  • Collaborate with other engineers to design and deliver reliable technical solutions.
  • Work with business stakeholders to clarify requirements and translate them into practical engineering solutions.
  • Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Essential Requirements

  • At least 3 years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Strong hands-on Python development skills.
  • Practical experience with NumPy and pandas.
  • Strong data-analysis skills.
  • Experience identifying and resolving data-quality issues across data pipelines.
  • Experience working with data pipelines and data-processing workflows.
  • Practical experience with PostgreSQL.
  • Experience using AI coding tools or coding agents as part of the software development workflow.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good understanding of software engineering principles and development practices.
  • Ability to troubleshoot both application and data-related issues.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with technical and business stakeholders.
  • Professional working proficiency in English.

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience working with data-intensive software systems.
  • Experience improving or optimising existing data-processing pipelines.
  • Familiarity with automated testing for Python applications and data-processing logic.
  • Experience working with data validation or data-quality frameworks and practices.
  • Understanding of database performance and query optimisation.
  • Experience working in environments where software engineering and data analysis overlap.
  • Previous experience collaborating with distributed or international teams.
  • Interest in continuously improving development workflows through modern engineering and AI-assisted tools.

What We Value

We value engineers who are analytical, pragmatic, and comfortable taking ownership of technical problems from investigation through resolution. Attention to data quality, reliability, and maintainability is especially important in this role.

We also value clear communication, curiosity, and collaboration. You should be comfortable working with both technical and business stakeholders, asking the right questions, and contributing practical ideas that improve engineering quality and delivery.

What You Can Expect

  • Hands-on work with Python, NumPy, pandas, PostgreSQL, and data-processing pipelines.
  • Exposure to complex, data-intensive systems used within the asset-management domain.
  • A role combining software engineering, data analysis, and data-quality improvement.
  • Collaboration with engineering teams and business stakeholders.
  • Opportunities to improve existing pipelines, processes, and engineering solutions.
  • A flat-hierarchy culture that encourages autonomy, collaboration, and technical ownership.
  • Opportunities for professional growth and continuous development.

What We Offer

  • Project / Industry: Asset management project for a London-based firm.
  • Location: Vilnius, Lithuania.
  • Contract Type: Contract.
  • Contract term: 1 year, with possibility to extend.
  • Compensation: €35–40/hour.
