Description

Job Summary:

Convo is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer [.NET 10] with 6+ years of backend engineering experience to build scalable, secure, and cloud-native backend services, APIs, MCP servers, and multi-tenant enterprise solutions. The ideal candidate should have strong expertise in C#, .NET 10, ASP.NET Core, Azure, microservices, REST APIs, databases, event-driven architecture, API security, and automated testing, with experience building reliable production-grade systems.

Technical mission

Build scalable and secure backend services, outbound data contracts, MCP servers and monetization services for multi-tenant enterprise solution and partner access using .NET 10, ASP.NET Core and cloud-native Microsoft technologies.

Key responsibilities

  • Design and implement scalable .NET 10 / Core microservices for Studio and marketplace workflows.
  • Design and expose versioned REST APIs and MCP interfaces over approved data and agent capabilities using ASP.NET Core.
  • Implement outbound contracts for data products, events, cached views and partner integrations, ensuring schema consistency, backward compatibility and reliable delivery.
  • Build token/usage metering, rate limits, quotas and auditable consumption records for API and platform usage.
  • Implement authentication, authorization, tenant isolation and secure partner/API access using modern identity and security patterns.
  • Design and implement asynchronous and event-driven backend workflows using messaging/event-streaming technologies where required.
  • Implement resilient distributed-service patterns including retry, circuit breaker, timeout, idempotency, caching, concurrency control and graceful degradation.
  • Develop data-access services using Entity Framework Core, SQL databases and appropriate NoSQL/data-store technologies.
  • Add automated unit, integration, contract, API, security and performance tests with complete service telemetry and observability.
  • Participate in architecture and technical design discussions, code reviews and engineering standards across backend services.
  • Own services through the complete lifecycle including development, CI/CD, deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, production support and operational documentation.

Required technical capabilities

  • Minimum experience: 6+ years in backend engineering, including 3+ years building cloud-native .NET microservices, secure APIs or multi-tenant platforms.
  • Advanced experience with C#, .NET 10 / .NET Core, including Web API, dependency injection, middleware, configuration, background services and asynchronous programming.
  • Strong understanding of REST/GraphQL API design, HTTP, API versioning, OpenAPI/Swagger, schema contracts, pagination, filtering, error handling and backward compatibility.
  • Practical knowledge of MCP servers, MCP protocol concepts and structured tool interfaces, with the ability to expose approved backend capabilities securely to AI/agent runtimes.
  • Strong experience building cloud-native microservices, containerized applications and distributed systems using Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Azure cloud services, particularly Azure App Service, Azure Container Apps/AKS, Azure Functions, Azure API Management, Azure Key Vault, Azure Service Bus/Event Grid and Azure Monitor/Application Insights.
  • Strong understanding of database technologies, including SQL Server/PostgreSQL, Entity Framework Core, database design, transactions, indexing, query optimization and connection management.
  • Experience with distributed caching and data-access patterns, including Redis and appropriate caching/invalidation strategies.
  • Strong understanding of event-driven architecture and messaging, including Azure Service Bus, Kafka or equivalent technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of multi-tenant architecture and security, including tenant isolation, tenant-aware data access, secure configuration and fine-grained authorization.
  • Strong experience with OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT, Azure Entra ID/Identity and service-to-service authentication.
  • Experience implementing API security, rate limiting, throttling, quotas, secrets management, encryption and secure service-to-service communication.
  • Strong knowledge of API gateways and enterprise integration patterns, including Azure API Management or equivalent technologies.
  • Experience with CI/CD and DevOps, including Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions, automated builds, testing, container image management and deployment pipelines.
  • Strong automated testing experience using xUnit/NUnit, Moq/NSubstitute, integration testing and API/contract testing frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of observability, including structured logging, distributed tracing, metrics, health checks and Application Performance Monitoring using OpenTelemetry, Serilog and Azure Application Insights or equivalent platforms.
  • Strong understanding of distributed-service reliability and operational patterns, including resiliency, fault tolerance, idempotency, correlation IDs, dead-letter handling and disaster/recovery considerations.
  • Proficiency with Git, pull-request-based development, code reviews, branching strategies and engineering quality practices.

Preferred experience

  • Experience with usage/token metering, billing events, subscription models or API monetization platforms.
  • Experience building event-driven data platforms, data-product delivery mechanisms and partner integration gateways.
  • Experience with MCP server development and AI/agent platform integrations, particularly exposing enterprise data and capabilities through secure tool interfaces.
  • Experience with Azure API Management policies, API products, subscriptions, quotas and rate limiting.
  • Experience with Kafka, Azure Event Hubs, Azure Service Bus or other enterprise event-streaming platforms.
  • Experience with Redis, distributed caching and high-throughput backend systems.
  • Experience with OAuth2/OIDC, Azure Entra ID, managed identities, workload identities and service-to-service identity.
  • Experience with policy enforcement and fine-grained authorization, including RBAC, ABAC or policy-based authorization models.
  • Experience with OpenTelemetry, Grafana, Prometheus, Application Insights or equivalent observability platforms.
  • Experience working with AI/LLM platforms, agent runtimes, tool calling and enterprise AI integrations.
  • Experience with Domain-Driven Design (DDD), Clean Architecture, CQRS and event-driven architecture.
  • Experience optimizing high-throughput, low-latency .NET services, including asynchronous processing, parallelism, memory management and performance profiling.

Expected deliverables / acceptance evidence

  • Production-ready .NET 10 / .NET Core backend services with documented APIs and OpenAPI specifications.
  • MCP server implementations and documented outbound data/API contract catalogue.
  • Metering, quota, rate-limit and audit mechanisms with automated reconciliation and integration tests.
  • Secure multi-tenant architecture with demonstrated authentication, authorization, tenant isolation and API security controls.
  • Automated unit, integration, contract, security and performance test suites with agreed coverage and quality gates.
  • CI/CD pipelines supporting automated build, test, security scanning, containerization and deployment.
  • Production telemetry, dashboards, alerts, health checks and distributed tracing for backend services.
  • Architecture/design documentation, API specifications, runbooks and operational support documentation.
  • Production troubleshooting and operational ownership, including incident analysis, root-cause analysis and performance optimization.
  • Contractor/team handover documentation and knowledge-transfer sessions where applicable.
