We are seeking a talented individual to join our Private Equity team at Mercer, a Marsh business. This role will be based in New York City and offers a hybrid work arrangement, requiring a minimum of three days per week in the office.
As a Private Equity Specialist, you will join Mercer’s North America Private Equity Funds team within the Alternative Investments Group, working closely with senior research staff to support portfolio construction and management for advisory and delegated client accounts. You will develop the skills to lead end-to-end due diligence processes for evaluating and underwriting prospective private equity strategies, while building expertise in private equity portfolio construction and manager selection. In this role, you will also support Principals and Partners in managing portfolios and contribute to in-depth written due diligence on current investment opportunities alongside Private Markets leaders.
We will count on you to:
- Attend manager meetings, plan due diligence, travel to on-site meetings, perform reference calls, evaluate the fund team, strategy, and performance, analyze historical returns, summarize relevant pros and cons, and determine an appropriate rating for a given fund
- Develop an understanding of the acceptable, market-based economic terms for strategies under evaluation.

- Prepare standard and ad hoc reports and presentations to facilitate communication and transparency to the Investment Committee, Staff, clients and other external entities as required
- Provide general support to the research and due diligence efforts of the Private Equity team globally
- Serve as a resource to client-facing professionals seeking current information on non-marketable investment opportunities, including data and analysis, comparison to other fund managers, and the opinion of the research team
- Mentor junior staff
What you need to have:
- Bachelor’s degree
- 3-5 years of relevant private equity investment experience, preferably at a pension fund, endowment, foundation, consulting firm, or fund of funds
- Exceptional quantitative skills with the ability to evaluate fund and portfolio performance
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, organization, and time management skills
- Resourceful, proactive, and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently
- Passion for or strong interest in investing
- Proficiency in Excel and working knowledge of the MS Office suite (Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint)
